Community Highlights: Meet Montrell Hill of Monat

Today we’d like to introduce you to Montrell Hill.

Hi Montrell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Growing up in a small city, I didn’t necessarily “dream big.” I knew I would go to college and get a job in whatever I decided, which turned out to be a certified occupational therapy assistant. I’ve always had a passion for helping others and making an impact in some way, shape, or form, so this field was a great path for me. I loved it and still do. However, when I became pregnant, I knew I wanted to stay home with my daughter for at least a year before returning to work. During this time, I was presented with a business opportunity to promote my lifestyle and share beauty products I enjoy using while making an income; I had to jump on it.

When we moved to Durham due to my husband starting his ER residency at Duke, I was 2 weeks postpartum. We were 12+ hours away from family & we struggled mentally with starting his new job. I was starting to feel consumed with everything, wife and mom, to a point where I was losing myself. I knew something was missing. I wanted a community of women to connect with. I wanted to create an income to help bring into our home. I wanted more for myself than to stay home with my daughter. Don’t get me wrong that is a full-time job, but I wanted to feel like I was a COTA, making an impact and helping to change other people’s lives for the better.

So I jumped into this business, not knowing if I would be good at it. I did it nervously. I did it scared. I just did it. I began personal development every day, whether reading a book, listening to a podcast, a training call, etc. I began to build my brand and a community on social media. I began to step out of my comfort zone and go out into the community to make new mom friends I could connect with. I began to realize that this business is more than transactional. It is transformational. I began to dream big! I could take this business and run with it to be a millionaire if I wanted to. I love the feeling of growing into a better woman every day. That’s why I will always be grateful for this opportunity because it has done amazing things for me internally that I couldn’t imagine.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
Nothing in life is easy, especially diving into something new. But with God on your side, passion, purpose, & knowing you’re why, you can get through anything. When I said yes to this opportunity, I was 4 months postpartum and dealing with postpartum depression & anxiety. So you can imagine the emotions I was going through and the bumps I hit. I was trying to balance mom and wife life while still trying to find time for myself in the mix. So, throwing on top of that businesswoman’s life was quite an adjustment. There were things I had to learn & unlearn. I had to learn to be consistent. I had to learn to grow my mind to stay the course. I had to learn to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. I had to learn how to have balanced time for my daughter, husband, and myself. I had to unlearn limiting beliefs that were holding me back. I’m still learning all of these things. Still, to look back at the woman I was 4 months postpartum to now being 1 year postpartum, I’m in a much better mental space from when I started my business because I stayed the course, despite all the bumps, despite all the resets, despite all the failures. I didn’t stop. I won’t stop until my life is how I envision it.

We’ve been impressed with Monat, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a mentor & beauty consultant partnered with a globally expanding vegan beauty brand, promoting their hair, skin, & wellness products. It’s similar to being an affiliate influencer to earn a commission. However, that is only 1 of 10 ways to earn an income with this company. I share non-toxic, cruelty-free products that I use & love. Both online & in person, I can build a clientele of those looking to better their beauty routine. I also benefit by helping others build their own online business and reach their goals. I mentor women on how to monetize their social media, grow their network, and develop their mindset so they can earn an income from their phones, whether that be a mom looking to stay home with her babies. Someone who loves their job but wants an extra income, or someone looking to leave their 9-5 to live life on their terms. Whatever your goals are for your life, we work together to make that happen with this business.

What sets me apart from others is my compassion and ability to connect with others on a deeper level. When someone becomes my business partner, I want them to know I care about them as a person and their goals. I want to see them win and transform their mind into something unstoppable. I want them to unlock their true potential. When someone becomes my client, I want them to know that I’m excited about their transformation and seeing their confidence grow through their hair and skin.

I am most proud of the mindset growth I’ve had since starting my business & building my brand. This business is much more than just promoting a product, but it is developing yourself and transforming your life. It is instilling belief in yourself and motivating others to do the same. I am known for helping clients struggling with postpartum hair loss, curl damage, dry or oily scalp, or skin issues such as hyperpigmentation, dehydration, acne, dryness, oiliness, etc. When you become my client, I will become your beauty concierge who will help you with your beauty needs.

If you want to scale up your skin or hair routine, fill out one of my free consults on my website. If you’re interested in learning more about how I can mentor you through this business & help you make an additional income, fill out the “work with me” form on my website below. I would love to connect with you.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best thing I like about the city is how family-oriented it is and how friendly the people are in the area. There are always different events going on along with various places we can visit that are kid friendly. So we can quickly bring her along when my husband and I need to unwind with friends a little, and we don’t have a babysitter. What I like most about the city is its distance from our family. My husband and I always say that we wish we could pick up Durham and take it closer to home.
