Today we’d like to introduce you to Moriah Brown
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started with something as simple and meaningful as a birthday celebration. In March of 2024, my best friend and I wanted to get matching anklets to celebrate our bond. I was captivated by the variety of options, the sentiment behind them, and the entire experience of finding the perfect pieces. That moment sparked something in me—I realized how special it would be to create that same joy for others. From there, I decided to take a leap and start my own small business.
Of course, starting wasn’t easy. One of the biggest challenges was making the financial commitment and truly believing in my vision enough to invest in it. Finding pop-up events was another hurdle, and I quickly learned that not every event would yield high sales. There were moments of discouragement, but I kept pushing forward, learning from each experience.
A major source of inspiration for me has been my cousin, Fallon, the founder of By Justine, a natural skincare brand. Watching her build her business from the ground up—attending local vendor events, creating a strong brand, and staying committed to her dream—has been incredibly motivating. I even had the opportunity to support her at events and model for one of her brand photoshoots. Seeing her determination showed me that with hard work and persistence, growth is inevitable.
One of my proudest accomplishments so far is how I’ve built my brand professionally. From organizing all the essentials for pop-up events to designing attractive table displays, I take pride in creating an experience for my customers. More than anything, I’m proud of myself for having a dream, going after it, and sticking with it.
Over time, I’ve learned just how much effort goes into running a small business. It requires discipline, patience, and resilience. My perspective has shifted to embrace the reality that success isn’t instant—it’s built with consistent effort.
If I could give advice to my past self, I would say: Trust your character. Stand firm in believing in the woman you want to be, and know that you are already her. Every step, no matter how small, is shaping you into the entrepreneur you aspire to become.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any journey worth taking, mine has come with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest obstacles has been finding the right vendor events and increasing my social media presence. I want to reach more young women in North Carolina, offering them permanent jewelry services and creating special moments through jewelry parties for birthdays, get-togethers, and other events. Building that visibility takes time and effort, and I’m constantly learning new ways to expand my reach.
Another unexpected challenge has been balancing my small business with my personal and professional life. My job is very community-focused, and as a social person, my weekends are often filled with family gatherings and time with friends. Trying to juggle my responsibilities while making time for pop-up events and business growth has been a challenge. Finding that balance is something I’m still working on.
In moments of doubt, I’ve leaned heavily on my support system—my family and close friends. They’ve been my source of encouragement, reminding me to believe in myself and keep pushing forward. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about big milestones but about recognizing and celebrating the small steps along the way. Progress doesn’t always have to make a huge imprint; even small wins are worth appreciating.
Through it all, I’ve realized that fulfillment comes from the journey itself, not just the results. Every lesson, every challenge, and every step forward is shaping me into the business owner I aspire to be.

How do you define success?
My definition of success has evolved over time. Initially, I measured it by how packed my event schedule was—believing that being “booked and busy” equated to growth. But over time, I’ve come to realize that true success is about balance. It’s about working at my own pace, finding harmony between life, work, and my business, and having patience with my journey.
For me, success is largely measured by business achievements and the opportunities I create. One of the moments I felt truly successful was at a holiday pop-up event at Greenville Mall. Sales were great, I had the chance to support other vendors while shopping for Christmas gifts, and I was overwhelmed by the support from both new customers and friends and family. That event reminded me why I started—seeing people appreciate my work and knowing my business is growing with each experience.
That said, I’ve also learned to embrace the slower moments. At pop-up events, I take advantage of downtime by indulging in things that bring me joy—reading, watching a good show, planning for future events, or managing other aspects of my business. Success isn’t just about sales; it’s about finding fulfillment in the process.
If someone were to look at my journey, I would want them to see how far I’ve come without any formal training or experience in business ownership. Everything I’ve built, I’ve learned along the way. That, to me, is success—taking a dream, believing in it, and turning it into something real, step by step.
