Today we’d like to introduce you to Myriam Edery.
Hi Myriam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my esthetics career in 2015 and had always worked in corporate waxing until 2020. A week after quarantine started, the company I worked for decided to furlough all employees. When salons were able to reopen, they chose not to rehire me because I didn’t agree with their covid protocol. I had no idea what my next step was going to be…After weighing out my options, I decided to take a chance and step out on my own. I wanted to make sure I could provide my clients with a safe environment throughout the pandemic, as sanitation has, and always will be my top priority. Losing my job was terrifying but I am incredibly thankful that I had the opportunity to start my business. The amount of support I have received from my family, friends and clients has been overwhelming, and I am forever grateful to them for supporting my dream. I am happy to see small businesses begin to flourish again and hope they continue to get the support they need. Now more than ever, it is important to continue to support small businesses to keep the dreams of many alive!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely! Especially now that people are starting to feel more comfortable being in a salon setting. Things were difficult at first because I was trying to build my clientele and was not operating at full capacity. Now that things are somewhat back to normal it has been much easier. Through the ups and downs I have loved every second of it !
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My salon, Skinologie A Beauty bar is located in the North Raleigh area. I offer full body waxing, custom facials, vajacials and lash and brow tint. I take pride in sanitation and cleanliness of the salon suite, never double-dipping and always putting the health, safety and comfort of my clients first. I strive for a place where beauty, comfort, knowledge, and personalized attention creates a totally memorable and rejuvenating experience. I specialize primarily in Brazilian waxing. Most people are surprised that Brazilians are my most requested service but they are extremely popular(more than ever post pandemic). What I love most about what I do is making my clients feel confident in their own skin. I am proud of what I was able to accomplish this past year and can’t wait to see what’s to come for Skinologie.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Initially when I lost my job I didn’t think things could get any worse. But looking back it is honestly the best thing that has ever happened to me. It gave me the big push I needed to start my business and I’ve never been happier. I didn’t think the business would survive it’s first year during a pandemic but I feel extremely lucky and thankful to be where I am today.
