Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved from Miami, Florida, in 2010 with my wife and two children to North Carolina, where my third son was born, after securing a job at the University of North Carolina (UNC), where I worked for about four and a half years. However, after realizing that my five-year professional goals were not being met, I decided to resign and explore new opportunities.
In the following months, I searched for a venture that would make the best use of my skills. With a background in Political Science and over 20 years of experience in customer service and sales (including sales management in the contracting field) the idea of starting my own contracting business came up. That’s how BP General Services was born, a small company specializing in renovations, remodeling, and restoration.
The beginning was the hardest part. Family, friends, and even my kids helped spread the word through recommendations, conversations, and postings in church and school bulletins. By the end of 2016, I was receiving calls from customers without needing to invest in additional marketing (my name and my company’s growing reputation were doing that for me).
Today, through platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Nextdoor, satisfied customers frequently recommend my services to others in North Raleigh, Midtown Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, Franklinton and Louisburg. Over the past few years, I have also worked closely with realtors in Raleigh, who trust BP General Services to prepare their clients’ properties for the market or improve their newly purchased homes.
From decks, porches, and three-season rooms to bathrooms, tiled showers, flooring, and interior and exterior painting, BP General Services has become a trusted name in the community, especially on the local social networking platform Nextdoor.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Certainly, wasn’t an easy decision to start my own business rather than work for someone else. One of the biggest challenges was not having a set salary or employer-provided benefits. I had to figure everything out on my own. The fear of failure, the constant search for an effective marketing strategy, and the commitment to delivering exceptional customer service were just a few of the dilemmas I faced along the way and that today set the standards for BP General Services’ excellent service.

BP General Services is a small, local remodeling company that offers renovation, remodeling, restoration, and repair services in Raleigh and the surrounding areas, always delivering quality, professionalism, and respect. Over time, BP General Services has built strong professional relationships with local branches of major suppliers like Sherwin-Williams, Home Depot and Lowe’s Home Improvement, earning recognition from their respective employees and supervisors.
We specialize in remodeling, whether you’re upgrading your home or preparing to sell your property. Our team can bring your vision to life, turning your ideas into reality. Renovations can help refresh your living space and keep it in line with the latest trends. A few years ago, we added restoration services to provide our customers with a more affordable and customer-focused alternative to traditional restoration companies—ensuring they feel valued every step of the way.
Instagram has become the largest source of information about the services we offer, providing a visual showcase of our remodeling and renovation projects. Through before-and-after photos, design ideas, and project transformations, customers can explore a variety of options. Our Instagram account allows clients to compare projects, gather inspiration, and read customer feedback on our work and services. We continuously update our page with posts on new projects, behind-the-scenes stories of ongoing work, and networking updates.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
BP General Services is family-owned, so my family plays a big role in it. From the very beginning, we were all involved in building this business. My wife helped shape our social media presence, managed mass emails (even proving me wrong when I was skeptical), and kept both me and the company informed and connected.
My kids have always been eager to help—whether it was unloading the truck at the end of the workday, distributing flyers around neighborhoods in the early months, or proudly talking about the company whenever someone shows interest in our services.
In fact, the first two letters of our company name (BP) come from the initials of our last names, symbolizing that family comes first. Who knows—maybe one day, one of them will take over the business and continue providing excellent service to our neighbors in Raleigh and the surrounding areas.
