Today we’d like to introduce you to Renae Johnson.
Hi Renae, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Renae Johnson and I am the Founder of Women Serving Others. We are a community of faith-based women united by our passion to be the hands and feet Jesus. We serve our local communities through volunteering, offering support, and providing resources that help those in need.
I was always the quiet girl—shy, reserved, never the one leading the crowd or making all the right choices. Deep down, I knew something had to change.
That change began when I started attending church. As my faith grew, so did my confidence. I took on a role at church, which soon led me to working with children’s nonprofits. Giving back had always been in my heart, but now, I was discovering a deeper purpose—God’s purpose.
One evening, at a partnership dinner, I overheard a conversation about the urgent need for volunteers in our community. In that moment, something shifted. I felt a clear calling: it was time to do more.
The very next day, I started a women’s faith-based volunteer network. We began with 30 women, passionate and ready to serve and we are now at 250 dedicated women. Slowly, and in God’s perfect timing, we grew—volunteering across Wake County and partnering with more nonprofits along the way.
A year later, we became an official nonprofit. And today, I stand in awe of the women who give their time to serve others. I couldn’t do any of this without them, and I’m excited to see where God leads us next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the world of nonprofits, smooth seasons come and go—but so do the challenges. Right now, one of our biggest hurdles is keeping up with the incredible enthusiasm of our volunteers. I’m truly blessed to have so many dedicated women eager to give back. However, with that passion comes a new challenge: volunteer opportunities fill up almost as quickly as they’re announced. It’s a beautiful problem to have, and one that speaks to the heart of our mission—serving together, even when the pace gets fast.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Women Serving Others is a faith-based nonprofit made up of women volunteers who are passionate about loving, serving, and impacting our community. We partner with local nonprofits and ministries to meet real needs—whether it’s preparing meals for our unsheltered neighbors, gathering donations for children and families in crisis, or simply showing up with helping hands and open hearts.
What sets us apart is the heart behind the service. We don’t just volunteer—we build relationships, bring hope, and respond with compassion in moments that matter most. Every act of service, big or small, is rooted in our mission to be led by faith and driven by love.
I’m most proud of the way our mission reflects who we are: authentic, humble, and committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus. Our readers should know that when they support Women Serving Others—by volunteering, donating, or even sharing our story—they’re joining a movement that believes service is more than a task; it’s a calling.
Any big plans?
Our goal is to expand beyond North Carolina—serving communities nationwide and globally. We also want to launch a youth initiative to inspire kids to serve others.
Bringing my own children along as we give back has been deeply rewarding. It teaches them the value of compassion and community. I want other kids to have that same opportunity—to grow up knowing the joy of helping others.
