Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Scott
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally from Albemarle, a small town outside of Charlotte. I went to East Carolina University for Interior Design. Started my career in the triangle area at a high end custom cabinetry showroom. There I grew a love for cabinetry and fostered my skills in space planning. I later moved to Charlotte to work at a remodeling firm, where I learned all the ins and outs of remodeling. After having my first child I decided to go out on my own to have a more flexible schedule and more independence. I have now owned Tailored Designs for seven years. Tailored Designs is a play on my daughter’s name Taylor. My husband has since joined Tailored Designs as a general contractor. Three years ago my sister also joined as my design assistant. We are all able to work together to design and build or design and partner with other general contractors to execute our clients kitchen and bathroom projects.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting started was certainly the most challenging. Not having any professional photography to put on a website right away was certainly a big hurdle. Luckily, I found a general contractor that was happy to partner with me and send me a lot of great clients. Once there was a backlog of clients then the hurdle was doing all the work myself, so that meant lots of early mornings and late nights in the office. The next challenge was getting the contractors I worked with to trust us with the cabinetry for the project. Once we gained their trust they haven’t looked back. Now that we are established and have our process down, it is just about finding the right clients that align with our values and trust our vision.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Tailored Designs?

What’s next?
We are always looking forward to seeing our projects completed and our vision coming to life. We are working on a large contemporary house on Lake Tillery now and we are excited to see it take shape. We are also always planning our next trip. Last year we went to Spain, I just got back from Brazil and next year we plan to go to Italy. Next year in Italy we will go to EuroCucina the leading trade show in Europe for kitchen design. We are always taking what we learn about culture and esthetics from our travels into our projects.
