Community Highlights: Meet Shakyla Petty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakyla Petty.

Hi Shakyla, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello I am so happy that you chose to do an interview with me. For starters I am a 21year-old mother of two beautiful little girls. When I gave birth to my first born in August of 2018 at the age of 17 years old. I knew that I didn’t want to become a statistic and I knew I had to set a great example for my little girl. Shortly after that amazing life changing experience, my father passed away in December of 2018. I was a daddy’s little girl so his death affected me in so many ways. Due to that tragic loss, I thought maybe if I started a business dedicated to him it could help me cope with his death easily. As the years went by surprisingly I was able to turn something “negative” in my mind to something positive. In April of 2019, I launched my first business “Lamont’s Boutique” which is named after and dedicated to my late beloved father. Being a young mother of two now as of January 2020 and an entrepreneur has opened my eyes a lot.

I started to become more active on social media and realized there were a lot of other young mothers and just people in general that had started up their businesses but needed a lot of help. Due to that very reason, I decided to start up my life/business coaching brand in November of 2021 and it goes by the name Enlightening Your Future. Where I help other entrepreneurs start, grow, and legalize their businesses. I love what I do and I do it with a passion. I have successfully helped more than 50 women so far grow and scale their businesses to where they desired them to be.

My favorite quote by Maya Angelou is “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better”. I stand beside this quote because I knew when I first gave birth to my first and second children that I had to “do better”.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles along the way with starting this business was the fear of failing others. I always speak on how being fearful can hinder you a lot, especially in the entrepreneurship world. Yet having that feeling that what I may have been teaching to these phenomenal women may not work for them was the scariest. Yet both I and my clients overcame that fear.

With starting up a business in general you always see how many true supporters you have out there so that was a very hard obstacle I had to overcome. Know that some will support me and some will not but my dream is only meant for me and it is my duty to make sure I pursue it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Enlighteningyourfuture?
I am a life and business consulting coach. However, I specialize in marketing. I am well known for helping my clients generate income, market the best way they can on social media, come out of their comfort zones, and remain consistent no matter what. What sets me apart from my competitors is that I take my time with my clients.

I have a passion for what I do and to see others win especially in business is was keeps me motivated. I push my clients to the best of their abilities and I am very flexible when it comes to understanding their personal life stories. I offer many different services from courses, 1 on 1 class, webinars, strategy calls, and so much more.

What were you like growing up?
As a young little girl, I always had the biggest imagination. I could see myself living in a huge home, running my own clothing store (I use to draw pictures of it), and helping others, especially the poor. I always would give family, friends, and strangers the clothing off my back. I’ve always had a humble yet bubbly spirit.

I could literally walk into a store and start a conversation with a stranger. I was always in sports and doing extra curriculum activities but one of my favorite all-time activities I took part in when I was younger was around Christmas time giving back to those who were less fortunate.
