Community Highlights: Meet Tracy Albert of Cake Town Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Albert.

Hi Tracy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While I was in college, I started baking more frequently. It started with cookies for my friends and family and became a passion. After college, I worked for Bright Horizons as an Infant Teacher and began making cakes for the kids at the center, and it just continued to evolve. It started to get to the point where I was turning down orders because I was working, and in January 2020, I leaped to start baking full-time. Of course, the pandemic then happened in March, but I continued to grow and create content to build my brand through that. Then in February of 2021, my husband, Jason, and I were blessed to open Cake Town Bakery at 903 N Smithfield Rd, and we have been growing ever since.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been some struggles for sure. When we were initially looking to secure a physical location, the SBA told us that we would fail and that our business would not survive. It was a hard pill to swallow and a massive blow to my confidence. However, God had another plan, and here we are today doing what some said we could not. There is also the work-life balance. As a growing business, I put in a lot of hours, as we are a small staff right now, but in the end, having something I can call my own is truly something I am proud of.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Cake Town Bakery?
Cake Town Bakery is a Black Owned Bakery and Coffee Shop in Knightdale, NC. We offer a place for people to sit down and work or have a great conversation with us. We specialize in cakes and cupcakes for personalized orders, and we rotate our menu daily, giving everyone something they can enjoy. We also have special events that we host. We partner with Chef Archie from Knightdale for Sunday Brunch and Networking events. We also partner with DS Will of Press Play Poetry for our poetry series Food 4 Thought. And we recently started a Cake Decorating series called Drink the Grape and Decorate. We offer a place for the community to come and network and get some great desserts. We take pride in being a staple in the community and showing how a small business can greatly impact the community.

What makes you happy?
Baking is my passion; it is more than a business for me, and I am truly blessed. Bringing joy to others through my work is my pride and joy. Seeing the excitement on a child’s face for a cake with their favorite character on it, or seeing newlyweds be made speechless by their cake on their special day. It lets me know I made the right decision to pursue my dream.
