Community Highlights: Meet Youri Chancy of Chancy Academy of Barbering Arts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Youri Chancy.

Hi Youri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to be a barber. I started cutting hair at 13 years old, and from the very beginning, I fell in love with the craft, the creativity, the discipline, and the connection with people. What began as a hobby quickly became a passion and a sense of purpose, pushing me to keep learning, improving, and taking my work seriously.

Fast forward many years later, that passion has grown into ownership. Today, I’m proud to own my own salon with seven barbers working alongside me. Building the shop took persistence, patience, and faith, but it’s incredibly rewarding to create a space where both barbers and clients feel valued. Going to work now doesn’t feel like a job, it feels like walking into something I once dreamed about and now get to live every day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most entrepreneurial journeys, there were plenty of challenges along the way limited resources, learning the business side of barbering, and navigating moments of uncertainty and self-doubt. Balancing consistency, finances, and personal growth while staying committed to the craft required a lot of sacrifice and resilience.

There were also challenges in building a team, earning trust, and creating a culture that aligned with my values. Each obstacle forced me to grow, adapt, and stay disciplined. Looking back, those struggles shaped my character and leadership, and they’re a big part of why I’m able to appreciate where I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Chancy Academy of Barbering Arts?
Our business is built on more than just cutting hair—it’s about craft, culture, and community. We are a full-service barbershop and salon that specializes in precision cuts, grooming, and personalized service, but what we’re truly known for is the environment we create. We focus on consistency, professionalism, and making sure every client feels seen, respected, and confident when they leave the chair. We have 5 star reviews on google and yelp.

What sets us apart is our commitment to excellence and people development. In addition to serving clients, we are actively striving to become an academy that trains the next generation of barbers, helping them master both the craft and the business behind it. We invest in our barbers, emphasize discipline and growth, and operate with a strong sense of integrity and pride in our work. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the culture we’ve built a space where barbers enjoy coming to work, clients feel at home, and standards are high. I want readers to know that our brand represents passion turned into purpose, and that everything we offer from our services to our training vision is rooted in quality, authenticity, and long-term impact.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is the sense of community. It’s a place where people know each other, support local businesses, and genuinely want to see one another succeed. There’s a strong spirit of resilience, creativity, and cultural pride here, and that energy makes it a great place to build a business and invest in people.

What I like least is that opportunity and resources don’t always move as quickly or as evenly as they could. There’s so much potential in the city, but at times progress can feel slow, especially for small businesses and young entrepreneurs trying to grow. That said, I see this less as a complaint and more as an opportunity because with the right collaboration and vision, the city can continue to evolve and better support those who are working to make a positive impact.
