Community Highlights: Meet Zachary McFarlane of Zach Wraps and Tint

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachary McFarlane.

Hi Zachary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My vinyl wrapping journey started with wanting to customize a motorcycle I had purchased while still in high school. After making some questionable aesthetic modifications, I wanted the motorcycle to have a matte black appearance. This is where the idea of vinyl wrapping started from as I used to watch countless automotive YouTube videos. After receiving my order for the vinyl wrap, I spent several nights and hours trying to wrap the motorcycle, not knowing at the time that motorcycles can be some of the hardest vehicles to wrap given the amount of compound curves and acute angles. After about a week or two of struggling, I finally had a finished product I was proud of. Fast forwarding towards the end of my college experience, I got into the side hustle of car flipping. I would purchase run down vehicles that I thought had potential past their worn out paint jobs. I sanded down the worn paint and began to vinyl wrap these vehicles which would lead me to a profit after being sold. This passion for cars led to an apprenticeship at a higher end Connecticut automotive performance shop, vinyl wrapping everything from Hondas to Rolls Royces. I took my skills back to North Carolina and opened up my shop in Benson, NC. We have proudly been open for three years now due to the support of our local community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have not faced much adversity or struggle in reaching my goals of being an automotive shop owner. I am very grateful to be surrounded by family and friends who have truly supported me from the beginning and are determined to help me achieve my goals. Every business owner faces long nights and hardships, and I continue to invest in my business while going through trial and error periods. At the end of the day, a client’s reaction to their reimagined vehicle with a fresh vinyl wrap or window tint is always worth it.

How do you think about luck?
I personally believe that luck starts at the very beginning, as far back as who raises you. I had the luck of having incredible parents who curated a life where I thrived in hands-on problem solving. In business, I found that luck was created through hard work and consistency. I typically work 60-80 hour work weeks which some may say is a lot, but I’d rather reach my goal of an early retirement, sooner than later.

Pricing:

  • $3000-$4500 for an entire vehicle vinyl wrap
