Hi Alisha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After graduating business school, I worked in the marketing field for over 12 years. During this time, I knew deep down I wanted to be a business owner and that working in the “corporate grind” was not truly for me. In 2018, I was inspired by my OWN wedding/boudoir photographer to start my own studio in Wilmington and once that seed was planted in me, there was no turning back.
Over the years, I realized that most of the women walking into my studio weren’t really there because they needed “sexy photos.” They were burnt out, disconnected from themselves, stuck in survival mode, or spending so much energy taking care of everyone else that they stopped seeing themselves as a person outside of their roles. The photos became proof that they were still in there.
I’ve now photographed hundreds of women in Wilmington and beyond, and I’ve expanded into hosting luxury women’s retreats and experiences centered around self-expression, connection, and personal transformation.
My business has grown and changed a lot over the years, but at its core, the mission is still the same: helping women see themselves differently and stop holding back n their own lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m extremely grateful for the overall success and growth of my business since 2019, but there were definitely some challenges! The first was when I decided to go full-time with the photography business in January 2020, and then we all know what happened…
After that temporary pause, my main challenge has been surviving the ebbs and flows of the economy, as well truly honing in on my core messaging. I have always known why I think this experience is so incredibly helpful for women but it’s been a journey putting it into words that accurately express its impact and importance.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating highly personalized, guided portrait experiences that help women reconnect with themselves and see themselves in a completely different light. None of my clients are models and have never done anything like this before, so a huge part of what I do is helping people feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely seen.
What I’m probably most known for is the emotional transformation that happens during and after the experience. Women come in nervous, critical of themselves, convinced they’re awkward or “not photogenic,” and leave carrying themselves differently. That shift is the most rewarding part of my work.
I think what sets Atlantic Boudoir apart is that we focus just as much on how someone feels as how they look. The experience is designed to be supportive, empowering, and customized from start to finish. We offer a full client wardrobe, extensive prep guidance, fully guided posing, luxury sets, same-day image reveals, and a very intentional environment where clients can relax and let their guard down. My main goal with these portraits is to pull out the most magnetic, alive, authentic version of them.
I’m also proud that I’ve built this business in a way that reflects my actual values and personality. The brand is bold, emotional, a little unconventional, and deeply human, and I think people connect with that.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a very outgoing, deeply empathetic person. I feel things HARD and love connecting with people. I also have always been into the creative stuff – arts and crafts, dance, imagination. I realized I loved taking photos and turning them into memories that could be revisited forever when I was in middle school and got my first camera. I loved capturing moments and then putting those printed images into intricate scrapbooks I created or on display around my home. It never occurred to me that I could turn it into a career!
