Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Butler.
Hi Angela, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started caring for children in my youth group in 1998 in my local church in Florida. It wasn’t until I was the youth leader that actually understood this would be something I would do for the rest of my life. I struggled financially and was in between jobs. My sister told me about working for childcare and I thought that would be easy, I’m great with children and love seeing them grow in knowledge and understanding of the world around them. So, I applied at one of the Local childcare facilities and worked for them awhile and got well aquatinted with working with all ages of children. Then I found myself wanting to learn more about children so I went to a local Junior College where I received my Child Development Association certificate know as CDA. Then went on to work for Headstart and other childcare jobs doing what I love. As I accomplished my schooling, I knew I would want to own my own childcare facility. And I did the investigation and that is how I got where I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has NOT been a smooth road. In my journey of working along side directors and staff members I saw quickly that what and how I wanted children to learn is totally different then what some of them wanted or were even doing. Some of my directors were fabulous and I was able to learn one hundred percent from them and then there were others that I told myself if I ever owned my childcare these are definitely things I would not do. Even though the going was tough, I still learned a lot about what to do and what not to do. Such as, it matters how you speak with children that makes a child feel encouraged, safe and accomplished. Affirmations are key to all learning in every age group. And the heart of compassion is absolutely a must have in the childcare industry for children and families.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My business is Growing Angels Family Home Daycare. I am in the set up process and I am loving every minute of it. We specialize in the care of young children and their families and making sure each family is cared for while learning necessary tools to go to the next level. I am most proud what enriching environment will be offered when everything is set up and we are launched. And definitely what will set us apart from others will be the loving, caring, safe environment where children will come and learn and grow.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would love to leave my business name in the atmosphere, Growing Angels Family Home Daycare. I will be in Raleigh area. When we open we would love for to see you.
