Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Robb.

Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m a native of Illinois and I moved to Southern Pines in November of 2011.  I instantly fell in love with this quaint little town.  I had never lived somewhere that was so supportive of small business and seeing all the thriving shops, I knew this was a special place.  After living here for a few months, I noticed a need, something that was missing.  I was surprised there wasn’t a cute and clean place to have quality manicure or pedicure service.  Since I owned a small salon in IL, I decided to take on the challenge here!

It took a bit for me to find the perfect space, and when I did, I knew I had to take the opportunity. I opened my salon company, Karma Beauty Bar in December 2012 in a 500-square-foot space with 3 pedicure chairs and a manicure bar with 4 seats.  We grew very quickly and soon found we needed a larger space, and God presented that opportunity to me in November of 2013. We moved into a magical little cottage in Downtown Southern Pines and expanded to include more services. At that time, we introduced our salon and spa services and instantly grew from a team of 3 to a team of 12! Big changes! We were at that location for 3 years and grew the business along with the spa services we offered. In April 2017, we moved again into our current location of 5,000 sq feet.  Karma now includes a state-of-the-art spa and salon, a beautiful nail bar, and a cocktail bar. We have a team of 22 extremely talented and passionate professionals ready to help you achieve your desired personal image.

After celebrating 10 years in business, we have carefully curated our experience. We are proud to say Karma Spa Lounge & Beauty Bar is leading the way in affordable luxury in the Sandhills. We know it’s more than just a haircut or a pedicure; it’s your experience. Our team is dedicated to providing an inclusive and peaceful space for you to relax, recharge, and refuel. We believe in transformative self-care to help you look and feel your best. At Karma, our focus is you.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are struggles in every aspect of life. However, with strong faith and a positive attitude, one can get through anything life hands out. I have been blessed to have a strong support team and a wonderful, understanding husband. Being a business owner, sometimes priorities must be what the business needs, including long hours, missing events, and just being too tired to do much after a long week. Having a spouse and family that understands that is key. In addition to a strong personal support team, I’m thankful to have an accomplished, top-notch, and encouraging management team. My team of salon and spa professionals is also extremely talented and understanding. It took several years for the “perfect” team to develop, and we have carefully curated our culture and guarded it fiercely! I want my team to wake up and be excited to get to work and to view their coworkers more like family than colleagues. We have made that happen with hard work, coaching, and education. Without these people, my faith, and a positive mindset, Karma wouldn’t be what it is today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The experience at Karma is not like any other you will find in the Sandhills. The number one thing that separates us is our ability to seamlessly blend professionalism and fun. Our professionals come from all walks of life; we are passionate about our work and the results we provide. We love to learn and provide services that are on the cutting edge of the beauty industry. And we can still have fun and create amazing relationships with the people we help. We believe in loving people, showing kindness, and helping them to fill an empty cup so they can go out and continue to care for others, paying it forward, creating a beautiful circle of kindness and caring for others.

At Karma, we are cultivating more than beauty. Mindfulness, respect, and kindness are all tenets of how we treat Mother Earth, our clients, and ourselves. We embody this down to the products we use. Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
Do lots of research.  Get a business coach! Far too many people open a business thinking it will be easy if they have a passion for your trade. However, there are a lot of surprises along the way and a coach to help you through is worth the investment.  Make sure to have a great support system, a business coach, an attorney, and a great accountant! Don’t be under the delusion that you can do it by yourself, surround yourself with other professionals that are strong in what you aren’t. You can’t master all of these things alone.  Know there will be hard days, really hard days….but take it one day at a time.  Keep your head up, your faith strong, and keep going!  Never stop dreaming the dream.
