Conversations with April Tate

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Tate.

Hi April, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ella & Lucy began with a simple desire: to create beautiful, holistic, handcrafted products that brought comfort, calm, and a little luxury into everyday life of my sister , that was suffering from a skin condition. What started as a personal passion to create wellness essentials quickly grew into something bigger — a way to share joy, creativity, and self-care with my community.

In the early days, I experimented in my kitchen, blending scents, testing formulas, and learning what truly resonated with people. Every product was made with intention, every scent designed to evoke a feeling, and every label crafted to reflect a brand rooted in elegance ,authenticity and to pay homage to our grandmothers. Our grandmothers taught us the magic of flowers and healing. Ella and Lucy products carry their legacy in every batch.

As friends, family, and neighbors began asking for more, I realized this wasn’t just a hobby it was the beginning of Ella & Lucy The Collection. I started doing vendor events, pop-ups, and community gatherings, each one teaching me something new about quality, presentation, and the power of connection.

Today, my business continues to grow with the same heart it started with: creativity, care, and the belief that small, handcrafted goods can make a big impact. Ella & Lucy is more than products — it’s a story of passion, perseverance, and building something meaningful from the ground up.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One obstacle is standing out in a saturated market and scaling operations without compromising authenticity or product quality and compete without significant resources. Another challenge is without consistent funding, it’s difficult to expand production or take advantage of growth opportunities. Some markets do exceptionally well, while others result in lost time and low sales.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create handcrafted, clean, and intentional self-care products, our candles, soaps, body oils, body butters, and wellness blends—that help people slow down, breathe deeper, and feel restored. Every product is made with natural ingredients, soothing scents, and the emotional warmth of generational storytelling. I specialize in crafting luxurious, skin-nourishing self-care experiences rooted in heritage, wellness, and intentional living. We are known for clean, gentle formulations for sensitive skin. Our amazing signature scents inspired by comfort, luxury, nature, and memory. Small-batch craftsmanship that ensures freshness, safety, and quality and products designed to support relaxation, healing, and emotional wellness.

We are most proud of creating a brand that honors my grandmother’s legacy transforming her traditions of care, healing, and storytelling into products people can hold, smell, and feel. We are also deeply proud that customers trust my products on their skin, in their homes, and in their moments of self-care. Every batch represents love, intention, and generational strength.
Ella and Lucy stands apart by blending luxury, heritage, and emotional wellness into every scent and formula. We turn everyday routines into moments of calm, connection and comfort.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a creative, nurturing, and intentional child who loved making things with my hands and paying attention to the little details others overlooked. I was naturally drawn to comforting people, expressing myself through scents and colors, and creating small moments of beauty—traits that now shape the heart of the business.
