Conversations with Ashlyn Saba

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Saba.

Hi Ashlyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My name is Ashlyn Saba. At the time of writing this, I am a freelance model and a university student working towards a career in fashion. I’ve always had a passion for art and it took me some time to figure out the kind of art that was called to me. It all started with my grandmother.

She had an extensive makeup collection, and she always wore really fun makeup. When I was 13, she passed away. I missed her terribly and I wanted a keepsake in her memory. My mom (her daughter) told me I could have her makeup collection. My grandmother had tons of unopened makeup that was now mine. From that day forward I wanted to practice the skill of makeup artistry.

I fell in love with makeup and how creative I felt when I used it. As I grew up, I took interest in editorial makeup and that is where my love for modeling grew. Now, I’m 19 and I adore fashion just as much as makeup. I feel a calling to be a part of the modeling and fashion industries.

I dream of becoming a professional model and one day creating my own cosmetic products.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing of importance comes without challenges. I have struggled with anxiety and the feeling of being stuck in one place/stage. I feel that sometimes I am my biggest critic, and that hinders me from taking risks and trying new approaches.

Accepting that I of all people could be fortunate enough to have the life that I dream of is a challenge. There are over 7 billion people in this incredible world of opportunity. Who’s to say that I, or anyone, can’t work my way to my dream career?

I have a long way to go and I look forward to continuing my journey, even with the challenges I will face.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a model and content creator.

As I grow my platform, I want to be known as a person that has overcome many hardships and still made it to the top. I am extremely proud of how I use my challenging life experiences to push myself.

What sets me apart from others is that I have an overwhelming passion for what I do and a drive to create. I am very determined and I always work to make the most out of my life!

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Mental wellness matters deeply to me. Everyone has a story, and parts of our stories affect us in very specific ways.

It is important to me that everyone I reach understands how I feel about mental health, which is that we are all human beings with emotions and we deserve to do what it takes (within reason of course) to make ourselves mentally and physically comfortable in this world.

Inclusivity is something that matters a lot to me. Every single person is different and I think that is what makes this world so beautiful. Another thing that matters to me is the people that I love. I couldn’t be where I am without my friends and family!
