Today we’d like to introduce you to Belinda Brown.
Hi Belinda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am from Queens, NY, and began my dance training at the age of four at Gloria Jackson Dance Studio, where I studied African, Ballet, Jazz, and Tap. A graduate of North Carolina Central University, I continued my love of dance by becoming a dance instructor at Adele’s Creative Dance Centre in 1992. I have performed at New York City’s Theatre in the Park and have appeared on Good Day New York & Spiritual Awakening. In 1993, expanded my African, Ballet, Jazz & Tap training to include Liturgical, and became the Dance Ministry Leader at Merrick Park Baptist Church in 1995.
I relocated to North Carolina in 2007 and saw the need for a dance and music studio that specialized in progressive technique. Expressions in Rhythm Studio is a family-owned performing arts studio born on August 30, 2014, out of a love of the arts. We specialize in youth development that is inspirational and transformational and are committed to providing excellence in dance and music instruction to children ages 2-18.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth, no. Rewarding, yes. As an African-American-owned business that offers dance and music lessons to a multi-cultural community, traditionally we have less income and assets that can help grow our business.
Thankfully, Expressions in Rhythm Studio has weathered every storm and continues to thrive as an integral business in our community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
