Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Cooper. Them and their team share their story with us below:
After high school, North Carolina native Brittany Cooper hightailed to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in the arts. While in college at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, she discovered not just a passion for interior design, but also an appreciation for the California aesthetic—one based on an organic connection with the outdoors. In the year of 2012, Brittany opened five women’s boutiques in the Southeast region.
Now back in her home state of North Carolina, Cooper founded Rathell Designs where she and her design partner Riley Scout Walker bring a Biophilic touch to both residential and commercial design.
From greenery and nature scapes to water features and natural materials, the Rathell team creates comfortable, memorable, and inspiring spaces. “Biophilic design is a technique that brings nature into your home to create a sense of healing and peace,” Cooper says. “It’s about creating an oasis where you can forget everything else that’s going on in the world.”
Home staging, too, is a popular service in North Carolina’s fast-paced real estate market. The Rathell team approaches these projects with sensitivity, understanding that emotions are at play as clients prepare to sell their homes. “Our method is always ‘less is more,’ and we educate clients before jumping in,” Cooper says.
Fast forward to a few years later, Cooper has created a platform and division of design with Rathell Designs. Brittany is beyond proud and thankful for all the success that has accrued over the last few years.
Even so, the design process is an intimate one, and Cooper acknowledges the challenge and privilege of working in clients’ innermost spaces. “I love what I do every day, and we love that people enjoy the experience through it all. Good design takes time,” Cooper concludes.
“The most fulfilling part of what I do is, every day is a new beginning and waking up doing what I love is most rewarding”.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business is an exciting journey but it’s not without its ups and downs – the road to success can often be a bumpy one. I take every project with pride and always leave with knowledge. Each project is truly different but the expectation always remains the same.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the years, Brittany has developed and accumulated years of experience in the field and can help each client see the outcome long before a project has even begun.
Integrating her design ideas with team members on the execution of high-end residential and commercial design projects, she uses her expertise with design tools such as AutoCAD to draft architectural plans and elevations. Her keen attention to detail and unparalleled organizational skills enables her to manage all aspects of the business.
Here at Rathell Designs, we have created a West Coast-inspired firm bringing all the aesthetics that we love to the Carolinas.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I advise all up-and-coming designers to stay true to your craft. Try not to be so hard on yourself and stay true to your artistry. Everyone is talented in their own way but no one can take away your creativity from you. Stay true to who you are and the rest will follow.
