Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Wright
Hi Cassidy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ever since I was young, I’ve been drawn to writing and creativity. My big brother and I would often “borrow” my mother’s camcorder to videotape family events and our everyday adventures. This early passion for storytelling and creativity only grew stronger as I got older. In high school, I immersed myself in activities like chorus and theater, which allowed me to travel abroad and experience different cultures. These experiences broadened my perspective and deepened my commitment to creativity.
After high school, I pursued my undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where I had grown up. Initially unsure of my path, I enrolled in NC State’s exploratory studies program, which eventually led me to the field of communications. This field was a perfect fit, combining my love for writing and creativity with the skills needed to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. As social media gained increasing popularity during my studies, my passion for videography and photography was rekindled. I started posting videos on Instagram and TikTok, later expanding to YouTube.
In the spring of 2022, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, concentrating in Public Relations. Wanting to deepen my knowledge, I pursued a Master of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Being a first-generation college student, this was a significant achievement, and I was driven by the hard work and determination instilled in me by my family, and my faith.
While pursuing my master’s degree, I worked full-time as a social media specialist for a local nonprofit, applying my skills in a real-world setting. I continued creating content for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, growing my subscriber base and receiving opportunities to promote products through my channels. I even recently had the opportunity to create an Amazon Influencer account, which you have to apply for, where I can link my favorite products and receive compensation for their sales. Social media not only serves as a creative outlet but also allows me to practice my skills and create a digital storybook of my life.
Currently, I still work for the nonprofit where I started my career and have taken on a few freelance social media clients. My dream is to one day open my own digital marketing agency, where I can leverage my skills and passions to help businesses promote themselves effectively. Looking ahead, I plan to continue learning and growing in this ever-evolving field, as I believe knowledge is power and there is always more to learn.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Getting to where I am today certainly came with its share of obstacles. When you’re passionate about something, it can be difficult to determine the right path, fearing that you might let yourself down. Balancing multiple jobs during my undergraduate years and working full-time while pursuing my master’s degree required immense perseverance, determination, and strength. However, my faith kept me grounded. I believed that God’s plan for me would unfold as it was meant to, and that belief gave me the courage to pursue my goals head-on.
The journey was not always straightforward, and it often deviated from what I had envisioned. Yet, those unexpected turns often led to outcomes even better than I had imagined. Hard work and faith allowed me to achieve anything I set my mind to, and I’m grateful for every challenge that shaped my path.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I am a full-time Social Media Specialist for Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines. This organization holds a special place in my heart as I grew up as a Girl Scout in this council from kindergarten through my senior year of high school. It’s incredibly rewarding to use my passions to inspire the next generation of girls and give back to an organization that shaped my formative years.
In addition to my work with the Girl Scouts, I have collaborated with multiple freelance clients across diverse industries. I enjoy the challenge of creating robust marketing and communication strategies tailored to each unique field. My specialties include social media content creation, management, and scheduling, as well as paid advertising and demographic targeting. I also excel in analytics and data analysis, allowing me to assess and adjust social media campaigns to optimize their effectiveness.
One of my proudest achievements is being a first-generation college student who earned a master’s degree with honors just a year after completing my undergraduate studies. More recently, I had the opportunity to interview Emmy Award winning actor Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Saving Private Ryan) ahead of his performance at the 2024 National Memorial Day Concert, which was an incredible honor and a testament to the work I have done in communications. I’m also proud of my ongoing commitment to creating content that inspires and excites me. I hope my work encourages others to be themselves and create without fear of judgment.
What sets me apart from others is my unique perspective on life and my optimism- my genuineness. Through my life experiences, I’ve learned that life is short, and we shouldn’t be afraid to take risks. I believe in putting my best foot forward in every situation and always being open to learning and growth.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
In my opinion, taking risks is essential for progress and innovation. Many successful people were once told they couldn’t achieve their goals, yet they pushed forward despite the odds. It’s easy to see obstacles and assume something is unachievable, but those who succeed often see beyond these barriers.
Recently, I had the opportunity to interview for my largest freelance social media client to date. Initially, I hesitated, unsure if I could manage this alongside my full-time job and personal commitments. However, knowing that my long-term goal is to open my own agency, I recognized this as a necessary step toward that dream. I reminded myself that there’s no harm in trying.
I’ve faced many situations where taking a risk led to outcomes better than I could have imagined. The process can be intimidating and scary, but I believe in taking it one day at a time. If you can take even one step toward your goal, you’re already making significant progress.
Confidence in yourself is crucial. No one will do the work for you, so having the courage to take risks and the belief that everything will work out is key to growth and success.
