Conversations with Clyde Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clyde Turner. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Clyde Al’ Tarique Turner – known to many as Rique, born July 4th, 1987. Dripping in talent and armed with a raw desire to just speak and influence, one of North Carolina’s most talented up-and-coming Hip-Hop/rap artists. His songs are stories of childhood, relationships, street life, and redemption. Rique hails from Asheville, NC, known for its art, luxury, and poverty-stricken areas. His lyrics portray the hustle and grind for those less fortunate of an affluent lifestyle. He was made there running with cousins, gang-influenced, and attending school there while being raised by a single Mother. Family has always been a stable foundation, and he ran thick with other members who also aspired to get in the music industry. He grew up surrounded with and loving music. He laced his lyrics around childhood experiences and incidents that occurred while running the streets of Buncombe County. Relocating to Charlotte, NC, in High School, he honed his rap skills by visiting the city’s hottest spots that hosted artist showcases and performing at clubs while battling local artists and creating a persona for himself. He began to regularly hit the studios. After investing so much into his rap career, Rique decided to chase after music with a new fire. Not only is it his dream, but his ability to recollect life experiences over evoking beats is sure to be refreshing. When asked, his reply was that he is not in any particular genre of rap. Lyrically he doesn’t compare himself to any artist, but if asked, his answer would be he is favorable to both Andre 3,000 and Wale. With his new EP out right now entitled “Tha 8ight”, we look forward to hearing more from this next-generation upcoming artist. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road, the journey, has been anything else but smooth. Being challenged with difficult times, decision-making. Running your own company or business can get very overwhelming. You have to make sure everything lines up, everything is in order, everyone is on the same page, etc… And if your team is ready, it will only hinder you from ultimately achieving your goals. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do musical compositions/songwriter. I specialize in the artistry of creating the material. Known for ghostwriting for some of the majors. 

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice on finding a mentor is simple. Network as much as possible, build relationships as often as you can. Follow up with these relationships consistently. You’re bound to get someone’s attention who really is willing to get you the time of day. That’s when and who you should approach about becoming a mentor to you for your benefit.
