Conversations with Dan Galloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Galloway.

Hi Dan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
An introduction to my story could very easily take a month of me talking nonstop. A simplified way to answer this question would be to say I am a human whose life has been jam-packed with action, adventure, comedy, and drama. My life has been filled with a huge amount of surprising plot twists and has truly been a wacky and wild ride.

It’s no secret that adversity is a part of life. My journey has certainly had its share. At age six, I was the sole witness to my adoptive dad’s passing. As childhood progressed, I was bullied, nearly drowned in the ocean, sustained a severe concussion, and miraculously survived a car accident. My first semester of college was a bizarre experience as my roommate almost never slept and repeatedly tried to light me on fire. As an adult, I have learned many invaluable lessons the hard way as a job candidate, employee, and entrepreneur. Not to worry, it’s “all good.” Despite what I’ve been through, my enthusiasm and sense of humor are both alive and well. You would pick up on my passion for life immediately within seconds of meeting me.

One of my biggest challenges I’ve faced since coming to earth has been my ongoing journey with the wonder of ADHD. As challenging as living with every symptom of ADHD has been, I’ve come to appreciate the multitude of positive aspects that come with it! I believe it’s those same positive aspects of ADHD that have inspired the humans I’ve met over the years. More on that in a little bit.

Married for 37 years to a woman who gets prettier every day in every way, I have been insanely blessed with two off-the-charts amazing children who are following their dreams and loving what they’re doing. When I’m not spending time with my family or working, I enjoy spending time with my model train town, playing basketball, swimming laps, shopping at antique stores, and listening to my extensive library of Bruce Hornsby concerts. My life has been (and continues to be) a wild and wacky ride, something I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love what I do! As an uplifting professional speaker, I blend education, engagement, enthusiasm, humor, and inspiration into fun talks at career expos, churches, colleges, conferences, and youth organizations. I’ve been blessed with opportunities to inspire humans at Duke University, North Carolina State University, Wake Forest University, Wake Tech Community College, United Way, and the YMCA. The topics I especially enjoy speaking on are job search/career readiness, embracing uniqueness, pursuing dreams, and remaining determined.

Before venturing out on my own, I worked in career coaching and workshop facilitation positions at the University of Central Florida and two of the planet’s largest career consulting firms. Early on in my career, I had a blast working as an interviewer at SeaWorld Orlando, the Disney Hilton, and Universal Studios. Great times!

I believe every human has gifts and is here for a reason. The thing that sets me apart from others may very well make for the biggest plot twist in history. While ADHD has received lots of press for being mostly associated with disorganization, distractibility, and impulsiveness, there are a ton of positives associated with it. Years ago, after decades of frustration, I came to see that ADHD is at the core of my uniqueness, in a great way!

Throughout my life, humans have told me they’ve been inspired by my creativity, enthusiasm, entertaining style, and spontaneous humor. The thing that those kind humans might not have realized is they were being inspired by ADHD, because those traits go hand in hand with it. They had unknowingly been witnessing “ADHD in action” the whole time! For quite some time after coming to earth, I didn’t realize just how much ADHD rocks, but now I do.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Thanks for asking. In addition to always seeking opportunities to use my gifts in front of audiences, I would like to find a human who can help me get my uplifting messages through social media algorithms! Also, it would be a slice of heaven to find someone who will do the things for me that I don’t enjoy (making calls, handling details) so that I can do more of the thing I DO enjoy (making a difference through speaking engagements)!
