Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Giles.
Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was originally born in Washington D.C., but at the age of 5, my parents decided to relocate to Lexington N.C. I attended Central Davidson High School where I was a part of many organizations including cotillion, marching band, and Lexington Youth Theatre; all of which I can say contributed greatly to my desire to connect with all types of people from different backgrounds. During my Junior year, I was able to take part in a student ambassador program and was able to travel abroad to many European countries such as Germany, France, and Switzerland and those places truly began the start of my many planned and unforeseen adventures!
Shortly after high school, I went to Winston-Salem State University and studied English with a concentration in Secondary education; however, life steered me in a different direction. My passion grew for Banking and finance after experiencing hardships of learning about student loans, credit, and many things that are not taught to us or the generations before us, especially as a black woman. With gaining knowledge from being submerged in the field, I was able to recognize that true generational wealth is through home/land ownership and decided to pursue my NC real estate license. I currently work with an amazing brokerage in Winston Salem, N.C., Coldwell Banker Advantage, where I have the opportunity to meet so many extraordinary people and assist them in making one of the most important purchases of their life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride. Growing up I had to deal a lot with self-identity going to schools that were predominantly white and trying to understand where exactly I fit in.
Even afterward attending a Historically Black University, I still had difficulties recognizing who I was and how I wanted my peers to identify me. Self-development started for me when I began to emerge myself in my talents and career.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The NC Triad and Triangle are great places to live and work, which is why I chose to call them home. With roots in Lexington N.C., my family and I decided to come to Winston-Salem in 2008.
Real estate has truly become a passion for me and with my added background in Banking and Finance, it is easy to help so many families enjoy the memorable experience of buying or selling their homes. I always try to leverage my keen sense of learning to also educate my clients and continuously exceed their expectations.
With the opportunity of meeting so many influential community members, I’ve also had the chance to serve on local nonprofits and charity organizations; such as Eliza’s Helping Hands which gives back to victims that suffer from domestic violence and experiencing hardship.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Some of my favorite books are The Autobiography of Malcolm X, Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglas, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.
