Conversations with Dave Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Park.

Hi Dave, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had a passion for building homes. Long before I became a home inspector, I was a builder. There was something incredibly rewarding about taking a set of plans, an empty piece of land, and creating a place where a family would build their future. It wasn’t just about lumber and concrete—it was about creating homes.

What started as a small construction company eventually grew into a thriving business that was building more than 100 homes a year. We had an outstanding team of nearly 20 employees, incredible trade partners, and it finally felt like all the years of hard work were paying off.

Then everything changed.

The events of September 11, 2001 sent shockwaves through the economy. Consumer confidence dropped, financing tightened, and uncertainty became the new normal. While we continued building, the market never quite felt the same again. Every year seemed to bring a new challenge, and builders everywhere were feeling the pressure – then the market crashed in 2006.

I ended up losing my business but had purchased a home inspection business and began building up again.
Those first few years weren’t easy. I leaned heavily on the relationships I had built in the real estate community. There were a lot of difficult conversations explaining what had happened to my construction business, saying goodbye to employees who had become like family, and figuring out what came next. Looking back, those conversations were healing. They reminded me that even during difficult times, people genuinely wanted to see me succeed.

As the years went by, I focused on building something new. I worked hard to grow the company, create a strong brand, and most importantly, give back to the community that had supported me when I needed it most.

Today, Advantage Inspection has grown into a company I’m incredibly proud of. We have an amazing team of more than 30 professionals who care deeply about serving our clients and our real estate partners. Every inspection is an opportunity to help someone make one of the biggest decisions of their life with clarity and confidence.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business is changing faster than ever before.

When I started Advantage Inspection, the internet was just beginning to change how people found businesses. Since then, we’ve had to continually evolve – from building a website and embracing social media to implementing new technologies, AI, automation, and digital marketing. It seems like every few years, the rules change again. So having to learn and staying on top of all the new trends can be time consuming and confusing.

One lesson I’ve learned is that no business owner can do it all. In the early days, I wore every hat imaginable. Today, I know that building a great company isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about surrounding yourself with talented people who bring different strengths, ideas, and perspectives. Great businesses are built by great teams.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Advantage Inspection, we specialize in residential and commercial property inspections, along with a full range of environmental and specialty services. We inspect thousands of properties each year, from first-time homebuyer condos to luxury homes, new construction, commercial buildings, and investment properties. Our goal is to provide clients with a complete understanding of the property, not just a list of issues.

What we’re probably best known for is our thoroughness, professionalism, and our ability to explain things in a way that people actually understand. We believe an inspection should be educational, not intimidating. We want every client to walk away feeling more confident about their home, regardless of whether they decide to buy it.

What sets us apart is our commitment to continuous improvement. Our industry is constantly evolving, and so are we. We invest heavily in inspector training, embrace new technology, and continually look for better ways to serve our clients and our real estate partners. We’ve expanded far beyond traditional home inspections by offering engineering services, commercial Property Condition Assessments, advanced testing services, and innovative technology that makes the inspection process easier and more informative.

What I’m most proud of isn’t the number of inspections we’ve completed or the growth of the company..it’s the reputation we’ve built over nearly 20 years. We’ve earned the trust of generations of homeowners, real estate professionals, and builders because we’ve always focused on doing the right thing. That reputation has been built one client, one inspection, and one relationship at a time.
