Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Evans.
Hi Desiree, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a licensed manicurist for over 20 years. After staying at home for year with my daughter, I went back to work as a medical pedicurist in a podiatry office. After 5 years, I was able to incrementally grow and develop my craft to the point that I felt I could do so much more with my abilities. With determination and drive, I was finally ready to go out on my own! That dream came to be my reality a little over 2 years ago, and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think my biggest challenge was staying driven. Many small business owners may not admit this, but staying driven as your own boss is a daily choice. The key is to always choose yourself and your passion above the doubt. My passion always outweighed the fear, and I wouldn’t change anything for the world!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is specialized to the field of therapeutic pedicuring. This line of work consists of more extreme degrees and circumstances of pedicuring services. I typically address diabetic clients, those with deep corns and callus, thick toenails, and heavily cracked and dry heels. I practice hospital grade sterilization, via autoclave and my therapeutic procedures are quite extensive to ensure the safety of the client. My services are there to help those that need regular pedicures for the sake of healthy feet or referral from a physician of some nature.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
My biggest risk was leaving my job to start my own therapeutic pedicuring practice! Without risk, there is no reward! Never forget you are worth investing in.
