Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Womack.
Hi Dominique, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Dominique Womack, a proud Fayetteville native. I’ve always had a passion for storytelling and community, and I’ve been shining a spotlight on local events, artists, and culture throughout the city I love.
My broadcasting journey started back at Douglas Byrd High School, right here in Fayetteville. I fell in love with radio while working at WZMB during my time at East Carolina University, where I majored in Communication with a concentration in Radio and Television Production in 2005. I originally thought I’d be a TV broadcaster, but radio had other plans, and I’ve never looked back.
From 2006 to 2009, I hit the airwaves as Hannah Wildman on Carolina’s Rock Station, Rock 103, becoming Fayetteville’s first Black woman of rock radio. During my break from radio, I have always found ways to give back to my community as my community has always found ways to make me a part of it especially Cool Spring Downtown District. Since connecting with them I can give my energy to the community by hosting two of the major citywide events which also led to me hosting events with the Arts Council of Fayetteville | Cumberland County and one of the voices of the minor league baseball team owned by the Houston Astros, The Fayetteville Woodpeckers. In 2021, I made my return to radio but the work throughout the community of Fayetteville has not slowed down nor will it EVER! Because, I love my city.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road? What’s that? Nothing worth having or living for will ever be smooth. COVID rocked me and many others, changing the trajectory of what my life plans were. So I worked in many different fields until I took a beat and became a teacher. During that time, although I enjoy pouring into our youth, I had a health scare with Endometriosis which left me infertile and had me questioning if I truly had a purpose. With the help of my ecosystem of community, friends, and family, I found that my purpose was still the same, I just needed to adjust my shot.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Even though I am on air five days a week, my main title is Promotions and Marketing Director for the four radio stations with Cumulus Media Fayetteville, NC but, that’s not how people know me. I am very involved with KidsPeace which is a national non-profit that specializes in Therapeutic Foster Care and being a board member made me want to educate myself in the science of the brain leading to one of my greatest accomplishments of gradating with honors from Fayetteville State University with my B.S. in Psychology. Fun fact, I also used said degree to help inspire myself to find more platforms to raise awareness. One or two of those platforms were to do beauty pageants and now I am Miss Nubian J19 Juneteenth and Elite Miss All American NC.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future will definitely include continuing to give back to the youth of my community. I can’t say yet but, just know the pen is to the pad and 2026 will be a year of growth and change.
