Conversations with Ignas Stancikas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ignas Stancikas.  

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Alongside studying, I wanted to develop my portfolio. That said, I wanted my concepts to be built, not just drawn up. 

During my studies at university, I researched and analyzed homes built in the USA, which led my to founding Truoba. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like in all businesses, the beginning is difficult because you need to find out how each piece of the system works. I was taught how to design buildings but not how to run a business. Also, universities don’t prepare that much for real work, so I have to spend lots of time learning how to design good houses. By saying well, I mean that each house should’ve functional and look good by not breaking the bank. 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
The reason why we do what we do is that we simply want to make peoples’ lives better. We do so by offering a good design, functional houses that can be built without wasting too many materials on unnecessary features. The shelter is a basic human need and everyone needs to have a home. People’s life quality can improve depending on the environment where they live. Compare how your life would be every day coming home in a standard rectangular room with single square windows where you see neighbors’ houses nearby, and how your mood would change just by having a higher ceiling in the room with upper windows from all the sides that could capture the sun from a different direction, so the sun could enter room throughout the day. Architecture has a great power to shape our life quality, and that drives us to achieve better results. 

Also, people can see our already-designed homes and choose in which one they would like to live. People can see the vision before committing to any purchase, whereas if you go to the local architect, you are not sure of what you will get eventually. Since only 2% of new houses are designed by architects in the USA, we understood that we should offer people good design homes, which could be a vision of their dream home. 

The architecture itself is a creative problem-solving job. Each project is challenging in its own way, and throughout the process, we solve the raised issues by showing the clients what can be done and what should not be done. Each client is involved in their house design development, which helps to reach the desired house project. 

The most exciting project is always the next one. My heart belongs to the project that I work on at the given time, and what is exciting the most is the process of coming up with the house design that people would like and decide to build. Previous clients send emails and photos of built houses, and it is a heartwarming feeling to hear all the good things that they mention about living in their houses. For many, these homes are the dream that they have been dreaming of for a long time, and their positive outcome is one of the greatest driving forces to keep improving our skills. 

What do you think about luck?
When you are willing to work hard to hai uncertain skills, then you combine this with opportunities that come into your life. If it plays well, people call it luck, but it is all about being prepared for the opportunities. This means learning skills to design houses and to run businesses with certain innovations.
