Conversations with Jennifer Lloyd Ball

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lloyd Ball.

Hi Jennifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I actually changed my major halfway through my senior year at UNCG from elementary education (teaching) to Recreation Parks & Tourism. I took ONE event planning class and I was hooked! After college I was the sales manager and events coordinator for a venue called Pine Lake Pavilion in Mebane NC for 10 years. This is where my network with the triangle began because a lot of our clientele and vendors were from that area. Once that venue decided to close its gates and retire, I created Knot Your Average Events 13 years ago and recently split our travel division portion of our company Knot Your Average Travel this past year.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
(Laughing) hmmm in 26 years I’ve handled 9/11, a recession, the housing market crashing, oh and a Pandemic… I’m a believer what doesn’t kill us, only makes us stronger with one incredible testimony. As you can see, I’m not going anywhere any time soon if I have anything to do with it. We just have to learn new ways to deal with problems and situations and create magical moments in time to forget all of the bad stuff going on in the world for at least a few hours. I’m beyond passionate about the event industry and I am a firm believer life should be celebrated.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are known for creating unforgettable guest experiences—because in the end, memories are all that remain. I love telling a couple’s love story through design, incorporating details from how they met, their first date, hobbies, and travels to make their wedding uniquely theirs. What sets us apart? I’m one of only 56 Master Wedding Planners in the world. What I’m most proud of? When families invite us back to plan another event—that’s the greatest compliment and a true testament to the trust we build.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Jennifer Ball is the ultimate “coordinating ninja” and your go-to “wedding whisperer.” One of only 56 Master Wedding Planners in the world, she currently serves as the North Carolina State Manager and Director of Members at Large for the Association of Bridal Consultants. With over two decades of experience, Jennifer doesn’t just plan events—she creates unforgettable guest experiences, weaving in her clients’ unique life stories. Whether it’s transforming an airplane hangar for a celebration of life complete with a flyover, or keeping the dance floor packed at an epic birthday bash, she brings a touch of magic to every occasion.
Jennifer’s work has been featured in both local and national wedding magazines and blogs. She’s also a proud co-author of the Planners Unplugged book project and was featured as one of Roy’s Folks on FOX8. For 13 years, she taught as an adjunct professor at UNCG, Alamance Community College, and High Point University, but now focuses her energy on destination weddings and sharing her expertise through speaking engagements.
Beyond her wedding prowess, Jennifer is a certified travel expert. As a Platinum Sandals Travel Advisor and Chairman Royal Club member, she knows her way around luxury resorts just as well as she navigates tent safety codes and logistics. And if the owners of Kleinfeld Bridal can trust her with their family wedding, you know you’re in the best hands.
When she’s not rocking weddings or mentoring the next generation of planners, you’ll find Jennifer scuba diving with stingrays in the Caribbean, fishing by a serene lake, or snuggled up with her six-pound office manager catching a movie. She’s all about work-life balance—because who says you can’t plan an EPIC event and still enjoy the ride?
