Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Imes.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story begins in college (UNCG). While Majoring in media studies I became pretty well versed with the camera. I sparked an interest in photography and soon my hobby of taking cap’ and gown pics led into a side hustle of portrait photography. My senior year I was asked to film a wedding by a colleague, and soon after my love for creating wedding films developed.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I main struggles on my journey have come from neglecting the business side of creative entrepreneurship. Early on I invested so much time into my craft, but lacked all of the components of what makes a business successful and profitable. Even today I feel as though I learn something new about business/entrepreneurship every year.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer and videographer. I specialize in wedding films and portraits. Today I would say I’m known for my wedding films. I’m most proud of my wedding films because they are what I spend the most time on, creatively and mentally.
What sets me apart from others is my love for storytelling through cinematography. In college I majored in media studies with a focus on film and TV. Every creative decision is funneled through cinema. Storytelling is a part of the human experience, and I intend to tell a story with every frame.
What makes you happy?
My family makes me happy. Spending time with my husband and 2 sons really brings me joy. Marriage and family are so important to me. It’s a part of who I am.
