Conversations with Kelly Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Moore.

Kelly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I came into the USA in 1995 with a student visa. Seminary was in Bethlehem, PA. And there I fell in love with a seminary student for way south (Nc). I felt the call to ministry during my Junior years, got my basic masters of divinity. Following that we were married, finished our degrees. During our senior year we received a call to South NJ. We have only served together at a 1.5 calls. We then moved to Mayodan, NC,, then to GA, which was not popular among my husbands family as we were looking to increase our family, then back to NC, 10 years ago we felt God calling us to take on our own Churches. While we were both ordained Moravian I was able to service Lutheran churches because of a full communion partnership. I have been serving part time at two different churches in two different towns. First Holy Cross Lutheran in Davie County and now at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Welcome, NC. We graduated in 1998 and then I received my doctorate hood Seminary in 20023. What a journey!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been great and hurtful. Most of the time it has been by a few people that have been squeaky wheels that pull others end and I’ve got to maintain the non anxious presence, even when it’s about me, and talk a lot about what God says about disagreements.

Yet I still feel called.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Pastor/Chaplain

i can care for other, stand on their holy ground. I’m am allowed to perform baptisms, communion, weddings and preach all in a variety of settings.

My specific both church and the largest hospice in NC is being with people at various life changes. Hospice has given my more skills in end of life stage and the ultimate end of their life.

I am most proud of my adoptive children and ministry wise getting my Doctorate of ministry focusing on a touchy issue: how do clergy provide trauma to young people- both in the church and in the world!

What matters most to you?
That folks I minister to know God at a deep and personal way. That all may claim they are a child of God
