Conversations with Kiara Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Wilson.

Hi Kiara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I is originally from Durham, NC, and was raised in Charlotte, NC. At ten years old she created her own radio station called, K.94.10 in the walls of her room and that’s when she knew the radio industry would become a major part of her life. In May 2014, I graduated from Winston-Salem State University with her degree in Mass Communications/ Radio Broadcasting.

Her mother which is her role model, helped her pursue her childhood dreams by creating her own internet radio station in January 2015, True Dreams Radio! True Dreams Radio is an Award-Winning Radio Station in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2019, they were nominated for the Charlotte Peoples Choice Award for Best Radio Station of the Year and they won!

I KiDeMo’s vision for her station is to become global and connect with artists and entrepreneurs all throughout the world through social media platforms and travel across the states and countries until she’s ready to retire and settle down with a family of her own.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In my second interview with my station, I was raped by one of my guests. I had to seek counseling but I never gave up on my dreams. I continue to do interviews and has currently interviewed over 1000+ artist and entrepreneurs throughout the world.

Creating a radio station from the ground up has been a challenge with maintaining a solid team and accumulating enough funds to provide employment opportunities as well as buying a studio location for our services. Currently, we are partnering with different venues to conduct our interviews and events for our station.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Owning my own Award-Winning Radio Station in Charlotte, NC. Owning a trivia business called, “Black Music Bingo”

Owning a gardening business called, “The Ki To Gardening” starter kits.

Currently, I’m a part of the ATC with the Baha’i Faith in Charlotte, NC. We work in neighborhoods throughout the Carolinas providing service projects, classes, free Summer/ Winter camp programs for Jr. Youth plus more!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was going to my first concert and meeting Destiny’s Child backstage!
