Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Battle.
Hi Kimberly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After spending 19 years in the accounting field, Kim began to make candy apples as a hobby. This hobby grew to selling them at local markets, which grew quite the following. When a layoff happened in July of 2019, Kim decided to take the leap of faith and open a storefront selling her amazing candy apples and other candied seasonal fruit. Kandy Apples by K opened their doors in April of 2019 as one of the first candy apple shoppes of it’s kind! Kandy Apples by K offers an array of hard candy apples in different colors and flavors, a large selection of caramel and chocolate caramel apples, as well as their Food Network Magazine nationally acclaimed candy grapes! Throughout the year, you will find seasonal fruits like mango, plums, pineapple, and pears offered as well!
During the colder months, Kim is able to ship apples to you anywhere in the United States! To hear more about their story, you can catch their segment on Al Roker’s Family Style show on the Peacock Network!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road of entrepreneurship has not been an easy one! Our first year in business, COVID hit and we were forced to pivot to stay afloat. Despite the pandemic, we were able to grow our business and keep our doors open! We have learned to tread through our slow waves and continue to build our brand not only in NC but all over the world.

Kandy Apples by K specializes in an upscale experience to the world’s favorite carnival treat, the candy apple. We offer hard candy and caramel apples in more thatn 30 different flavors and designs! We are known nationally by Food Network magazine for our candy grapes, locally for the best candy apples, and world wide for our story and brand as documented by Al Roker on Family Style! We are also the FIRST to candy the Lucy Glo apple by Lucy Brand!
We are most proud of the customer service and relationships with our customers that we continue to work so hard to build. In addition to an amazing, homemade product, we offer an amazing experience! The attention to detail in our presentation and making of each apple, sets us apart from others.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Be sure to educate yourself on all the business structure and responsibilities of running your own business. Some things you will learn as you go, others you will need to proactively be sure to study and understand. My only regret, is that I didn’t start sooner to work for myself!
