Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Taylor
Hi Leah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Photography has always been a creative outlet for me throughout my life. It wasn’t until I began working in the event planning industry with My Oak City Events in the beginning of this year that I thought I might be able to actually pursue it in some way. I dusted off my camera and started taking photos at some of the events that we were putting on, mostly for our own content to show new clients. Eventually, I was asked by someone outside of our events to take photos for an event they were having. After having a few of these gigs and taking photos for the business, I realized maybe this is my niche and it would go perfectly hand in hand with event planning! I decided to finally take the terrifying leap of faith and make it official! Of course it wouldn’t have been complete if I didn’t add a photo booth into the mix as an event photographer. As soon as I jumped into the photography world with two feet, all the doors and windows of opportunity opened up. From private events at The Avenue and Whiskey Rose, to luxury apartments like 400H and Mira, to organizations like The Raleigh Girls Club and NC State Engineering, it has been nothing but rewarding!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been an entirely smooth road. I had a lot of self doubt before I made the decision, and still do off and on. Being in a creative industry, it can be tough to not compare your work with others, especially if they have much more experience. It can creep in and bring you down in some ways. I just remind myself that everyone has their own version of creativity, own style, and that I’m learning more and more everyday. Investing in equipment has been another obstacle, but I realize that it is something that will happen over time and there is no rush.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mainly specialize in event photography and photo booths, but am branching out into brands/content and portraits since these go along with working with other vendors and venues for events. The most rewarding part of it is capturing all the smiles and emotions around the room and seeing others post my photos on their social media! It’s such a great feeling to know that I created the work that they are proudly sharing with everyone around them. My style of photography is definitely dependent on what I’m photographing. I prefer more natural light and warmer tones, but I tend to adjust my editing style to cater to the surrounding environment, which I think sets me apart from others.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
