Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Chrisley.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After 13 years behind the chair and experience in several salons where I often felt confined to expectations that didn’t align with who I am or how I create, I made the decision to open my own salon. My goal was to build a space where stylists who felt out of place elsewhere could express themselves freely and create meaningful work. Equally important was creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for clients from all walks of life.
I began with nothing more than this vision, spending three months developing a comprehensive business plan alongside a coach. I was approved for an SBA small business loan and immediately set the plan in motion. Over the next six months, I fully renovated the space into a functioning salon, gaining hands-on experience in blue-collar construction work within what is traditionally considered a pink-collar industry.
This February 14th marks three years in business, and today the salon is fully staffed with an incredible team of talented stylists and estheticians.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but it’s been a very rewarding one. Like most small business owners, I’ve had to learn how to wear a lot of hats—from creative director to bookkeeper to fixing things around the space myself. Opening a salon also meant navigating local zoning rules, building permits, and fire inspections, which was a bigger learning curve than I expected and required a lot of patience.
Beyond the logistical challenges, one of the biggest struggles has been unlearning traditional salon models and intentionally building a culture that feels supportive, inclusive, and sustainable. Creating a truly safe space for both staff and clients takes constant communication and flexibility. There’s been plenty of trial and error along the way, but every challenge has helped shape the salon into what it is today and strengthened the community we’ve built.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At my core, I’m a stylist who genuinely loves creating art. I specialize in hair extensions, vivid colors, and color corrections—services that allow for creativity while also requiring a high level of technical skill. Many people discover me and the salon through TikTok, Instagram, and other social platforms, and I’ve become especially known for my extension work and bold, vivid color transformations.
What I’m most proud of is not only creating a space where every client feels comfortable and welcomed in my chair, but also the organic growth we’ve experienced through social media. The traction the salon has gained on platforms like TikTok has played a huge role in building our clientele and connecting us with people who truly align with what we do.
What sets me apart from other stylists in the area is my commitment to accessibility. I believe great hair should feel attainable, so I offer reasonable pricing and work closely with clients to create a plan that fits their budget without compromising the integrity of the hair or the final result.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think the quality that’s been most important to my success is authenticity. I show up as myself—with my clients, my team, and online—and that honesty builds trust. I’m not afraid to be transparent about the process, the challenges, or the learning that comes with running a business and creating art. People connect with what’s real, and I think that’s played a huge role in both the growth of the salon and the community around it.
