Conversations with Patricia (Patty) Singh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia (Patty) Singh.

Hi Patricia (Patty), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Patricia Singh but prefer Patty Singh. I’m 34 years old and a mom of two beautiful kids. I’m also a full time employee, freelance makeup artist (with over 10 yrs of experience), an amateur NPC bikini bodybuilder competitor, and a model (4 yrs total of editorial print and almost 2 yrs of runway).

How did I get into modeling? It all started in twenties when @Jclarkimages hired me to do makeup for a couple of local models he worked with. One day, we asked me to step in front of the camera and take some pictures…he mentioned I should go into commercial/print modeling. When I took his advice and started working on my portfolio and thankfully it kicked off (did rebranding shoots for local boutiques, car ad for a dealership in Fayetteville, etc and modeled for other photographers as well). I did it for about two years and then I stopped when I got married and focused on career and growing a family.

What inspired you to come back into the industry? It was after my first bodybuilding competition (when I got back I shape and regained my confidence and like myself again) when I had a photoshoot to (which almost every bodybuilder does mainly because we look our leanest and we want to document that hard work). It was something about those flashing lights that ignited that modeling spark in me once again…even the photographer was impressed with my posing and how I just kept moving everytime that camera clicked (and I quote, “how do you know how to transition to a new pose every time the camera flashes? You are a natural where as I usually have to tell my other clients how to pose or when to pose?). It was this shoot that encouraged me to seek professional photographers to help me update my portfolio which lead me to working with Mr. Gregory Jones with Positive Exposure Photography (IG: @gregory_photoman_jones and FB: Gregory Jones). He introduced me to a model coach who I have also been working with since my come back.

I have been very thankful for their support and encouragement to keep pushing to be the best version of myself in this industry especially now with social media.

I have been published in several publications now such as Glamour Bulgaria, MALVIE, Paradise Girls Magazine, and many more smaller ones. I been all over the U.S. as well as internationally for Fashions…despite being turned down when I first started runway due to only being 5’7” (which is one in shorter than the so call industry standard height) or for being a little to muscular from bodybuilding or for not being skinny enough for certain designers. Yes, those Nos hurt but then also made me work harder, more consistent, and persistent, and making sure my walk slays so they don’t turn me down for other reasons.

Shows I’ve walked in so far: NYFW, Las Vegas Swim Week, Art Basel, LA Fashion Week, Turks and Caicos Fashion Week, Charlotte Fashion Week, Spartanburg Fashion Week, CAM Art of Fashion, Holiday Pink Frenzy Fashion Show, Demin Derby by Justin Haynes, and many many more

Upcoming shows; Miami Swim Week, Utah Fashion Week, Florida Fashion Week, Aspen Fashion Week, Austin Fashion Week, Asian Fashion Week, Milan, London, Paris, and a few others

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Industry Struggles: been turned down for not being the industry standard height or not skinny enough or not as many followers on social media or the so call perfect body for swim week

I’m only 5’7” (5’8” is NYC standard) and I was a little too mascular from my bodybuilding but trust me not much as I’m a natural athlete…and I refuse to get implants or tummy tuck just not who I am and it’s not for everyone. We should all love our bodies especially as mothers after having children just changes who we are entirely.

Family/Friends struggle with what they call the new me…which is crazy because it’s what I used to do when they first met me. I just feel it is more of a jealousy feeling than anything else…why does she look like that and I don’t type of mentally spatter having kids. What they don’t understand is the sacrifices and discipline I have had to make and build.

But my husband and parents support me so that’s all that matters to me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a full time buyer at a 9 to 5pm corporate job and a model mainly on the weekends but sometimes during the week depending on the project.

Most proud of my modeling especially in this industry that has changed so much with all the social media and influencers etc

What sets me apart is that I’m organic and love what I do and their for I put in the work and never take no for an answer.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
