Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Rechkemmer.
Hi Rebecca, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My family took a Spring Break trip to Germany in April 2023, and I absolutely loved planning every part of it. My husband and I had been there 23 years earlier and had always wanted to go back. This time we were able to take our two teenage children and retrace many of the places we had visited before. Sharing those memories with them was really special.
Around that same time, I knew I needed to find a job to help with monthly bills and upcoming college expenses, but I needed something that fit my family’s schedule. My son attended a private school 30 minutes away, so I was driving him back and forth every day, and we were heavily involved in travel soccer with both kids. I needed something flexible that worked around our life.
I stumbled into the travel industry after finding a travel advisor on Facebook. I reached out, we talked over the course of a couple of weeks, and I decided to jump in. She has become a wonderful mentor and a great friend.
Over the last four years, I’ve grown my business through consistent networking, building relationships, and simply showing up—whether that’s posting on Facebook, commenting on posts, or connecting with people in my community.
I truly love helping my clients plan travel and being able to use my own experiences to guide them. I still haven’t had anyone ask me to plan a Germany trip, but after visiting Kauai in 2025, I’ve helped several clients plan vacations to Hawaii, especially Oahu. One of the things I love most is that I can take destination training for places I want to visit—or places my clients are interested in—so I can share both professional knowledge and personal experience with them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not really. Like any business, it takes time to build, and I’m still learning every day. One of the biggest challenges is finding time for training, especially the self-paced courses. I do love the live virtual trainings because they’re scheduled like appointments, and if I can’t make one, I can usually watch the recording later.
Another struggle has been staying consistent with marketing and keeping up with my Facebook pages. Time management is always a work in progress. I think finding that balance is something every self-employed business owner deals with.
That said, one of the biggest reasons I chose this career is the flexibility. My family comes first, then my clients, and I love being able to build my schedule around both.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I love most is that I get to “travel” with my clients without actually going. As I’m planning their trip, I walk through it as if it were my own—making sure every piece fits together, stays within their budget, and matches what they’re hoping to experience.
I specialize in custom, affordable vacations and adventures. Some clients want me to handle everything from start to finish, while others enjoy doing some of their own research. I actually love when clients bring me their ideas because it helps me better understand what they’re looking for, and together we create an itinerary that’s uniquely theirs.
I think I’m best known for my business name—Raspberry Travel. A raspberry is made up of lots of little pieces that fit together perfectly. Take a few away, and it gets squished. Travel is the same way. Every little detail matters, and I believe every trip deserves organization, delicate care, and kindness.
What I’m most proud of is being able to relate to so many different people and stages of life. I’ve homeschooled my children, navigated years of travel soccer, cared for my mom while she lived with us for four years, and now I’m helping clients create memories with the people they love. Those life experiences help me understand what’s important to each client and plan trips that truly fit their family, interests, and travel style.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think it’s a combination of dedication, consistency, organization, and being willing to ask for help. Running a business means you’re always learning, and I’m not afraid to reach out to a coach or mentor to help keep me focused and on track. I don’t think anyone succeeds completely on their own, and having people who challenge and encourage you has made a huge difference for me.
