Conversations with Stacy Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Lee.

Hi Stacy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always had a passion for creativity. Growing up in school, I always took art classes every chance I could get. I had so much passion and energy to create; I just had to learn how to get it out onto canvas/paper. During summer vacations, I would take art classes at the local fine art center. I continued my passion for art throughout my schooling, including college. During my undergraduate studies at University of Richmond, VA, I tried to get my hands on as many art mediums as I could. I had a blast! I took a digital art class that really impacted me. I explored and discovered digital art for many years before I finally settled down on acrylic painting. At the end of the day, I just wanted to feel the paint and the brushes with my hands. I couldn’t do that digitally!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. When I was in college, I discovered that I was allergic to some of the art supplies we would use. This drove me deeper into the digital aspect of art where I didn’t have to worry about allergies. Eventually, I found that acrylic paints did not bother my allergies which lead me out of the digital art realm. My advice to other artists is to not give up! Failing is part of the process, and nothing to be ashamed up. We fail 100 times and succeed 1 time– it’s a part of life! When one thing doesn’t work out, pivot and try something else.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
My paintings are vibrant, bold, and colorful. Art can have such a huge impact on its environment. Imagine a room that is gray with no color at all. What would happen if you hung a few colorful paintings on the walls? It would change the entire atmosphere of the room! When I look at colorful art, it builds me up and lifts up my mood. Color is a language in and of itself, and I love being able to communicate with color onto the canvas. There are some things that can’t be said well with words. I think color can bridge this gap of communication. It’s so much fun to explore this concept in my art. My hope is that my colorful art brings joy to others and sparks creativity wherever it is shown.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Life will be life, and it throws all kinds of things at us. I am a firm believer that you reap what you sow. Instead of waiting for luck or getting down by unlucky things or circumstances, I believe in hard work and perseverance. If you have a resilient mindset when you set out to do something, then luck isn’t going to get in the way (whether you have it or not). I have found prayer, and perseverance has been the gas to my fuel tank on my art journey. Honestly, I would have it no other way!
