Conversations with Valerie Remhoff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Remhoff.

Hi Valerie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Valerie Remhoff, and I am a Specialized Kinesiologist, IKC Certified Touch for Health Instructor/Consultant, Reiki Master Teacher, author, and educator. I work with people to reduce or eliminate stress and pain within the body that is impeding energy flow and keeping them from feeling their best and reaching their goals. I didn’t always know that this was what I wanted to do. In fact, like many people, I didn’t even know the field of energy healing existed. I started college as a chemistry major with a dance minor and graduated three years later as an environmental science major with a job as a software configuration manager. Even though I have always been intuitive, loved helping people, and have seen and sensed energy my whole life, my logical and scientific brain took over when it came to choosing a career. For a long time, I thought the two aspects of my personality were at odds with one another, the logic/science and the intuition. Turns out they are a perfect combination for a Specialized Kinesiologist!

I came to this realization when my sister, who was battling a serious illness, had exhausted all the treatment options of conventional medicine and began seeing a holistic practitioner. After exploring the holistic path for a short time, she started feeling better and seeing more improvement than she had in years of conventional treatments. Once I heard about her sessions and her results, I began researching the techniques her practitioner was using. This is how I discovered kinesiology. I was fascinated at how it blended western science with eastern energy philosophy.

I immersed myself in learning kinesiology systems and other energy healing modalities. With the support of my husband, I left my career in software to focus on raising my boys and starting my own practice. In 2010, I founded Butterfly Holistics to serve my community and beyond, with in-person and virtual healing sessions as well as classes in self-care and energy healing modalities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always struggles when starting a new career and building a business. Trying to explain what I do was a real challenge when I was starting out. Energy work is not a mainstream healthcare modality yet, so people do not necessarily have a frame of reference for understanding the work. I am an expert in kinesiology and energy healing work and I want to explain it, but potential clients don’t necessarily want the details, they want to know the benefits and how it will help them feel better. I had to change the way I talked about it to show people the value, like stress reduction, increased range of motion, reduced pain and increased mental clarity. Those results speak more to potential clients than an explanation of physics and energy!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a Specialized Kinesiologist, I take a holistic approach to helping my clients achieve their wellness goals. Using muscle testing as a form of biofeedback, I identify areas of physical, mental, and emotional stress and imbalance and use gentle methods to restore harmony to the system. Even after doing this for so many years, I am still amazed at the results that can be achieved in a very short amount of time. During the course of a single session, I’ve seen range of motion issues resolve, pain be eliminated and emotional distress dissolve completely. And that just scratches the surface of what you can accomplish with energy work. In my practice, I work with children, teens, and adults who are struggling with issues like physical pain, fatigue, stress, emotional distress, focus, mental clarity and more. I also offer in-person and online classes, ranging from basic self-care techniques to practitioner training in Reiki and Touch for Health. My book, Dynamic Healing, which is now also an online training, introduces advanced Reiki techniques, and guides practitioners in how to design powerful sessions.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband has been my biggest supporter and cheerleader. Without his help and support, I never could have left my job in software and jumped into a new field with both feet. He is my sounding board, my encouragement, and my rock. When I began my training in kinesiology, my chiropractor/kinesiologist at the time, Dr. Steven Kraskow was a great mentor. He not only gave me great advice, but let me practice with him when I was learning new techniques. My friend and colleague Sarah Madras has been incredibly supportive, giving me amazing business advice and direction, and also promoting my services to her clients and networking connections. My friends and clients are also major supporters, referring me to others and raving about the work I do. I sincerely appreciate the support and love of all my friends, family, mentors and clients. Word of mouth is really the best way to promote a business like mine, and referrals are the greatest compliment someone can give.
