Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahbree Wetzel-Lee.
Hi Ahbree, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was in the military for eight years leading up to separating in 2019! Through my time in the service, I did a lot of photography workshops as more of a “hobbiest”. I learned a lot and saw a ton of awesome places including Iceland, Canada, and pretty much all of Europe. This built a strong foundation when I finally decided to start my own business and that’s exactly how Alpha Whiskey Photography was born. My bread and butter is Elopements and Boudoir. I have been featured in a few different magazines and blogs for my boudoir work including Peer Space’s The Triangle’s Top 10 Boudoir Photographers as well as Boudoir Culture Magazine. All in all, I am an extremely passionate and adventurous person who is in love with life and I strive to let that show through my work.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It certainly has NOT been smooth (I consider myself a very humble person so I will air out all my dirty laundry!). One of the reasons why I moved to North Carolina is to attend Duke University for their Physical Therapy program so managing a full-time student schedule with an over-time position running my business has been extremely stressful. BUT! I’m built for it (thanks to my military experience and all of the stress that came with that). I also started my first year in 2020…so the year of COVID. That added a whole new level of complexity with client management and planning big events but I made it through and I am SO thankful because everything totally worked out in the end. All of my struggles have truly made me that much better of a business owner and I am truly thankful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m most known for my Boudoir work. I’m so damn passionate about it and I firmly believe it’s an experience every woman needs to have. The first one I shot at a workshop, I actually bawled almost the whole time! There was a woman there with a long battle with eating disorders and after a lot of talking her through everything, she let me take her photos. Her reaction to seeing herself is why I am so passionate about Boudoir. She had no idea she looked so HOT! I think women’s bodies are so beautiful yet why do we pick at ourselves so hard? (ME INCLUDED) I live for each and every reaction I get from a woman seeing herself through someone else’s eyes!
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I heard a quote one time, “When you take a risk so big and you have absolutely no control with anything and the only thing you can do is pray to whoever you believe in, that’s when you are actually living.” So that’s how I try to live my life, which is probably why it’s so stressful. But at the center of my business is my heart and my heart likes to LIVE! That’s where adventure and passion come through from my photos. I run my business with educated risk taking, love, and the relentless hungry for being the best photography service anyone can be offered.
