Daily Inspiration: Meet Alison Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Davis.

Hi Alison, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started working at Leith Honda in 2005 as a full-time night cashier. I worked there from 2005-2010 while I was in college. I left in 2010 to pursue a career in business. I struggled with my health and couldn’t keep a steady job due to absenteeism. Not working wasn’t an option. In 2015 I reached out to Todd Holmes, Russ Clark, and Jacob Buff to see if they would give me a chance. They took the risk and hired me! I honestly wouldn’t have started selling cars if everything in my life was “normal” and I had no health issues. I saw the benefit of me not being the only one in this position. They could still sell cars if I weren’t there, as I was the only one responsible for those job duties in other positions. This is the best position that I’ve ever had! It never feels like work. I meet new people, drive cars, and get paid based on my performance. This is not a job to me; it’s my career!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I fully completed the last grade (meaning all assignments, projects, and end-of-year tests) in the 7th grade! I went to the 8th grade and was eventually homeschooled because of my health. I didn’t complete all assignments, projects, end of year tests, but I was passed on to the 9th grade. I eventually withdrew from high school and received my GED in 2002. In 2003, two days before I turned 19, I bought my first home. In 2008 I earned my associate’s Degree. I have since attempted to earn my bachelor’s Degree, but I still need to complete it. I’m a product of a single-parent home, have several chronic health issues, and I’ve been working since I was 15. Chronic health issues have interfered with my daily life and work. They cause me to miss work, opportunities, and life. I rest on my bad days and make the most of my good days.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
My name is Alison Davis. I’m a Raleigh native and have been a Sales & Leasing Consultant at Leith Honda in Raleigh since 2015. I’m not your stereotypical car salesperson. Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I suggest finding someone in your field or industry that has proven successful. This doesn’t always mean that this person has been doing it for a long time; it just means that they’re good at what they do. Ask questions and tailor some of their processes to fit what works best for you. Not everything is cookie-cutter and will work for you. Trial and error have always worked for me. I will try something new. If it works, I’ll continue to do it. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try it a different way.
