Today, we’d like to introduce you to Allison Hatfield.
Hi Allison, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a writer for as long as I can remember. That is where my passion and drive began. I started by writing little songs, poems, and short stories. Slowly, I began writing book outlines that turned into chapters and my personal favorite, full-length songs. My passion for music ran deep in my blood, and it became my second nature to start writing songs all the time!
Through the years, I have worked hard to bring myself to a place today where I have released one full album and two singles, and I will soon release another full album. Not only do I get to stream my music, but I also get to perform it live on a regular basis. It feels like such a gift!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has NOT been a smooth road. But, ask anyone who has work they are proud of and they will tell you they had to work through the good AND the bad. My main struggle through the years has been confidence. Writing songs takes a lot of vulnerability.
Performing them in front of people is a whole new level of vulnerability! That has been the biggest challenge: allowing myself to be ok with the world hearing my stories and allowing them to inspire and impact others.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional singer-songwriter. I write my own music, and I also perform it during writers’ rounds as well as shows. I perform cover shows as well, which are a blast, but my heart soars for opportunities to sing my original songs.
I would have to say that I am most proud of the fact that I am still running after music! I have a lot of reasons to steer away from it because of what I have seen and heard in my life, but I constantly felt drawn to come back to it. For that, I am proud of myself for not giving up or throwing in the towel when it seemed unreachable (something I have to continue to remind myself every day!
I believe the thing that sets me apart is my songwriting. I know there is always more for me to learn, but I know that I can consistently write a new song that will stream from my soul, not just words on a page. I can also write a full-length song very quickly without compromising the quality! When the moment moves me, I can’t stop until it’s done.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been a very upbeat, positive person. When I was a child, I always wanted to run through fields barefoot and pick all the flowers I could hold in my hands (while singing, of course).
I was never afraid of ANYTHING, and I always greeted challenges with a slight bit of naivety. Of course, life has brought balance to that, in some good ways and some bad ways. That is part of growing up!
