Daily Inspiration: Meet Angel DeVoe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel DeVoe.

Hi Angel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hair was my first love. I started playing in my cousin’s hair, my little sisters, then friends. By 15, I was braiding hair for people at school for a small fee.

I was a tomboy and never into makeup, but I got a modeling opportunity and began going to MAC to get my makeup done for shoots. I was there religiously!

I decided to start trying to do my own makeup and eventually the girls at the shoot would ask me to do theirs. I transitioned from modeling to working on set doing hair and makeup. That is how GlambyDeVoe began.

I briefly left college to pursue cosmetology and began freelancing and continued working on set. I have done shows for NYFW working with high-end designers and brands such as Tresemme and L’Oréal. I worked on set for MTV, VH1, and Comedy Central to name a few.

In the midst, I began getting brand deals and working as a social media influencer. Still, it was a dream for me to work at MAC & a dear friend of mine, Wynter, gave me that opportunity and the push I needed because I still wasn’t confident enough to go for it. I began working at MAC and at that point, I knew anything is possible.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been far from a smooth road.

I was told many times that being a hairstylist, makeup artist, or influencer was not a real job. I had many trials and errors business-wise. I felt defeated many times and ready to give up on this “dream”, but I never did.

I continued on my path, I learned from my peers, I took classes to perfect my craft, & I watched doors open for me. I am further than I ever imagined in my career and most importantly happy.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in protective styles including braids, extensions, and crochet. I also do bridal hair.

Boho updos are my specialty as well. In makeup, soft glam is my go-to, I love sultry eyes, nude lips, & dewy skin. I also specialize in SFX makeup. I live for the gore!

I am proud of being versatile and making my clients feel heard and giving them a confidence boost through my work. Enhancing their natural beauty is my goal.

If you find something you love, make it a career. Follow your dreams, kick down doors, and don’t stop even when the road gets rough.
