Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelique Bolding.
Hi Angelique, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Labeled the “art kid,” I was the class creator and innovator fortunate enough to have parents who encouraged me to follow my dreams while surrounding me with communities who supported them. Little did they know my love for creativity and community building would bud into a brand marketing and business development career. As formal education goes, I studied Media Arts and Broadcasting at Western Michigan University in the great Kalamazoo, MI, before moving to Raleigh, North Carolina, in late 2013 after a short ‘gap year’ to surf and explore Southern California. I had the good fortune of landing at French West Vaughan in downtown Raleigh where I began my career in advertising. Surrounded by an organization that encouraged my entrepreneurial spirit, I was empowered to grow their content creation and social media offerings while traveling around the US to rodeos, beaches, and mountainscapes with brands like Wrangler and Pendleton Whiskey. With my entrepreneurial spirit in full drive, I branched out to create my brand consulting firm, formerly Beam Collective, where I had the pleasure of building talent networks to work on an array of local and international projects within the luxury wellness and travel space. Most notably, my experience working alongside talented teams across the Cayman Islands for the Ritz Carlton and EU Travel Commission. As my experience evolved, as a multi-faceted individual, I leaned further into areas of interest that led me in the direction of business development as a brand spokesperson and director. Over the past 4 years, I’ve had the opportunity to use my creativity and business acumen. To help brands solve problems and tell their story in new ways that aim to ignite purposeful conversations, build meaningful communities, and connect profit with purpose through a human-first experience. I am proud to continue this journey as I help individuals shape meaningful personal brands and enterprise organizations humanize business models to reflect better where we are in the human journey. The state of the world today and the innate potential of business to positively impact the world. Through relationship building and a powerful network of talented individuals, I found my purpose in promoting our power in our pockets, homes, and boardrooms to make a difference.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
HA! Is that a thing? The great C.S. Lewis once said, “Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God, do you learn” I’m fortunate that my experience has taught me so much about myself, the world, culture, and humans despite the ups and downs. The road has been nothing but smooth. I’ve found that I learn quickest when thrown into the fire, always have a plan B, C, and D, that sometimes we don’t get what we want, but what we need, and that in the end, we all are trying “our best.”
I’ve struggled as a multi-faceted creative. With many interests and passions, its easy to be pegged as a jack of all trades, master of none – but as the full quote goes, “though often better than a master of one,” I learned to embrace my passions and craft a narrative that fits how I intend to help others in all that I do. I’ve failed at business, I’ve failed at relationships, I’ve lost some, and I’ve won many. I may not know exactly what I want to be when I grow up, but I’m confident my struggles are helping pave my path to purpose.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I challenge brands and humans to make waves and lead with purpose in my work. As a brand marketing and business development director, I specialize in taking brands to the next level by focusing on a human-first approach. From software integrations to business connections and creative campaigns, my work is the desire to offer new ways of thinking that help brands and individuals ignite purposeful conversations, build meaningful communities, and connect profit with purpose through human-first experiences.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
SO MANY! My favorite apps include the Calm App, the Photofy app, Instagram (duh), the Bible app, LinkedIn, and the NYTimes crossword puzzle app to keep my mind going. My list of books is never-ending, but some recent favorites from the past two years are Nudge, Essentialism, Liferider, Originals, Chasing the Bright Side, and the Four Agreements. Also, anything by Malcolm Gladwell or Adam Grant. As for podcasts, there is quite a spectrum. I enjoy Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, TED Radio Hour, Freakanomics Radio, Not Past It, Under The Skin with Russell Brand, Brene Brown, Lifespan with Dr. David Sinclair, and The Human Upgrade with Dave Asprey.
