Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleyh Korgar
Hi Ashleyh, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, the Boys & Girls Club Serving Wake County was a foundational part of my life. The lessons I learned there shaped my values, teaching me the importance of service and giving back. From a young age, I knew it was part of my mission to return and inspire the next generation with the same guidance and opportunities that shaped me. Life can often feel chaotic, but the skills and experiences I gained through the club taught me how to navigate challenges—finding peace through faith, family, and community. After nearly 12 years as a member and three part-time roles, I have now returned as a professional, proudly serving as the High School Program Director for “The Club – Teen Center” under the same Boys & Girls Club organization that helped shape who I am today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been anything but smooth, but one lesson I’m embracing is that true growth often comes from standing strong and persevering through challenges. Working with high school students is no small task—it requires wearing many hats. On any given day, I find myself as a mentor, counselor, coach, cheerleader, authority figure, big sister, and even a bus driver, all to ensure their emotional, behavioral and physical needs are met.
As a young adult, I often reflect on my own teenage years, meeting them where they are and reminding them that I, too, am navigating life’s uncertainties. I lead with humility, allowing them to see that their struggles are not theirs alone. In turn, they teach me just as much as I aim to teach them. When people ask, “How do you work with teenagers?” I always say, “Kids aren’t bad—kids are hurt. When you uncover their pain and help them heal, you earn their trust, and from there, growth and transformation can begin.”
The rise in teens losing their lives breaks my heart, which is why I make it my mission every day to connect, mentor, inspire, and celebrate the young lives entrusted to me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work revolves around empowering and shaping the next generation by creating impactful experiences for teens. As the High School Program Director at The Club – Teen Center, I specialize in mentorship, youth development, and program innovation. I am known for my ability to connect with teens on a personal level, meeting them where they are and guiding them toward opportunities that expand their horizons.
What sets me apart is my creativity and vision—I don’t just run or implement programs, I design experiences. I believe in giving teens the chance to step into the spotlight in ways that society often overlooks. Whether it’s through career exploration, leadership opportunities, or hands-on experiences, I create spaces where teens feel seen, valued, and celebrated. I take pride in curating new and exciting events that not only entertain but also educate and inspire.
One of the things I’m most proud of is helping kick-start the future of these teens. Many of them come into the program unaware of the possibilities available to them. Through exposure to different career fields, industries, and creative outlets, I introduce them to worlds they never knew existed—or never believed were within their reach. Seeing their confidence grow as they step into new spaces, explore their passions, and recognize their own potential is the most rewarding part of what I do.
At the heart of my work is the belief that every teen deserves the opportunity to dream big and achieve more than they ever thought possible. By creating transformative experiences and ensuring they feel supported and empowered, I strive to be a catalyst for their success.
What matters most to you?
Helping others see the light within themselves—whether it needs to be dusted off or simply switched on—fills my heart with purpose. Pouring into others is my way of serving, and nothing means more to me than when people can experience the presence of God through my actions. Everything I do is meant to bring Him glory, and I stand firmly in that belief. Learning to lead not for self-recognition or validation from others, but purely to uplift and inspire, has been one of the most rewarding lessons of my journey.
It didn’t start that way. I had a lot of growing to do while in this role. Coming from the world of radio & entertainment where people were heavily invested in wanting to know who I was, or about my life, to walking into a space where I was just like everybody else humbled me…FAST! But, now I understand what life is really about and my purpose in it.
