In North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park, I’m shaping my future, one pixel at a time. As a digital creative, I explore beyond the usual boundaries, blending art with the latest technology. My love for art and nature started at three, sparked by my mother’s simple drawing of a flower. This early experience led me down a path filled with creativity. Inspired by video games from my childhood, like the Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, I discovered a fascinating intersection of art and innovation. My college years, studying new media, opened my eyes to the exciting worlds of 3D animation, graphic design, and video production. The intriguing possibilities of generative artificial intelligence have drawn me into new realms of digital creativity and imagination.
This journey isn’t just about my growth as an artist; it’s also about how art is transforming in the digital age. Stumbling into generative AI felt like discovering a new universe using computer vision to create things like never before. Each project is a step into the unknown, where I blend my creativity with the power of AI to create something truly unique. My goal is to leverage AI tools to create my own “AI world”. My work reflects my curiosity and my ongoing quest for innovation. It shows that even in a fast-paced technological world, there’s room for the human touch of creativity. Through my experiences, I hope to demonstrate the true essence of being a creator in the digital age, using tomorrow’s tools with the drive of an artist to imagine a more creative future.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path through creativity and technology wasn’t easy; it was full of tests that shaped who I am today. I grew up in a small rural town in the mountains of North Carolina. I was on a 56kbps dialup connection until I went to college. It was a challenge just to be online when my neighbors were mainly cow pastures and vast apple orchards. There were also many times where I doubted myself, especially when comparing my work to others. Navigating the ups and downs of the professional world felt challenging at times. Criticism, even when meant to help me grow, often felt personal. Yet, countless hours of reflection, I began to find clarity—through photography, expressing myself, and seeing beauty in simple things, I eventually gained confidence and began to develop my own unique style.
Photography and artificial intelligence grew from hobbies to deep passions that drove my creativity and now direct my creative path. My determination was like a guide through tough times, leading me to spend endless hours learning and growing, always aiming to improve. This drive to excel and a constant desire to reach further became the core of my personal growth. As I pursued my interests, staying true to myself even when feeling overlooked, my work began to reflect my happiness and joy. It became clear that staying inspired by everything around me and engaging deeply with various forms of art was crucial. It’s not about never facing challenges but about continually chasing what you love, being true to yourself despite judgment, and using personal reflection as a foundation for success.
As you know, we’re big fans of your work. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with it?
My day job as a Multimedia Designer for Research Triangle Park (RTP) allows me to work on awesome marketing campaigns that highlight other talented professionals in the area while telling the story of RTP. My daily tasks range from creating thoughtful advertisements and engaging social media content to branding, web designs, and improving the digital user experience. I also dive into market data analysis, aiming to familiarize RTP’s workforce and visitors with the Park’s rich history and ambitious future vision.
In the realm of digital art and media, my expertise covers graphic design, animation, photography, and generative artificial intelligence. While exploring my more creative side, my hobby in AI art and storytelling caught the attention of Hollywood executive producers. I’m particularly proud of my venture into generative AI, where I’m creating my own “AI world.” This project uses AI to develop characters that reflect my personality, resulting in an interactive online experience that takes viewers on a journey through my childhood inspirations— a blend of retro video games to 90s nostalgia and cartoons—with a unique cyberpunk flair. My goal is to translate my vision into 2D, 3D, and virtual reality, creating a fully immersive experience that bridges all forms of digital media.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
My childhood was marked by being quiet and often shying away from the spotlight, a trait that doesn’t really fit with my Leo zodiac sign. Instead of being the center of attention, I found joy and fulfillment in letting my creations take center stage. My academic path leaned towards science and mathematics, drawn by the structured thinking and problem-solving that STEM programs offer. Despite this, my heart always found passion for the arts. My sanctuary as a kid was often behind my computer, holding a Gameboy, or being outside in the endless landscapes of the Appalachian Mountains. Growing up, I was immensely drawn to iconic game series like Pokémon, Legend of Zelda, Lineage II, Fire Emblem, World of Warcraft, and Super Mario. These digital adventures sparked a passion for concept art and drawing, laying the groundwork for my eventual pursuit of 3D animation. Inspired by the visual storytelling in video games, and the imaginative landscapes of anime and animated films from Pixar to Studio Ghibli, my early interests carved the path for a career at the intersection of art and technology. I hope that by sharing my story I can highlight how sometimes the quietest voices can dream in the most vibrant colors.
