Daily Inspiration: Meet Brooke Tang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Tang.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up, I would always watch make-up videos on Youtube and aspired to become a makeup artist one day. I started making make-up tutorial videos which turned into a lifestyle and fashion videos like life hacks, hauls, morning routines, recipes, etc. I eventually stopped my youtube phase but still enjoyed fashion and filming and taking pictures.

I liked to model and always posted outfit posts like any regular teen girl would. During Covid, I decided to follow the path of content creation. I’ve always wanted to do social media as a job, part-time or full-time, and when I saw an opportunity to work with brands, I went for it. I chose to commit to creating, pitching myself, learning the behind-the-scenes of influencing, and really putting myself out there trying to be consistent and create a platform.

I am still learning and growing but I have worked with brands I never thought I could work with, with my following, and learned so many things about social media and how I make it work best for me. I love being able to actually have an influence on people and being able to express myself doing what I love, modeling and fashion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. I think what people don’t see is the planning and pitching influencers have to do behind the camera.

Trying to be consistent takes a lot of work when you are also a college student and trying to figure out when to shoot during the week with someone else and batching up content all at once; responding to emails and making sure you hit the due dates, coming up with collabs/jobs for yourself for the month and knowing the value of your content to not receive less from brands, engaging a ton with other creators so you stay relevant to the algorithm, etc.

Also, the social media aspect of it where you doubt yourself and compare your content and growth with other creators is frustrating but you just have to remind yourself it really isn’t about numbers, as long as you’re posting what you like and stay consistent, you will grow in several different ways than others.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a content creator/microinfluencer. I work with brands to promote their clothing or skincare or jewelry on social media platforms like Instagram and Tiktok. I model and take pictures of their products and try to influence people to buy their brand!

I’m proud of learning how to do the whole influencer thing on my own and making my dreams a reality.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
In general, I learned gratitude the most. I believe we should always have gratitude and express it to humble ourselves and be content with where we are at in life no matter the circumstances.

Covid brought a lot of anxiety and fear but it pushed me to appreciate more, love more, be patient, and not let anxiety and fear have control over me. There is a purpose in every season we go through and we should humble ourselves to see the blessings that come out of every season.
