Daily Inspiration: Meet Cate Holcombe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cate Holcombe.

Hi Cate, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My love for design started with drawing floor plans, then creating those houses out of cardboard for my dolls as a young girl. My career path branched a few times, but I found my way back to design in my mid-30s.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge was honestly self-doubt. Once I got over my insecurities and saw how grateful and inspired clients were following my services, things really took off. There is certainly a steep learning curve regarding the logistics of interior design. Establishing vendor relationships, setting up systems for placing and tracking orders, building a library of memos, finding reliable service contractors are just a few of the things to figure out.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have explored many aspects of design and have offered a variety of services over the years. In the past year, it has become clear that full-service, turn-key interior decorating is where I thrive and where clients benefit the most. Taking an empty room, and transforming it into a finished, charming, functional space where families spend their days is such an incredible feeling. I love to balance fresh, clean-lined pieces with those that have character and patina. It’s the balance of the two that allows for a unique and character-filled space.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a quiet child, with a strong creative side. I had a drafting kit I absolutely loved. I sketched floor plans for our home, my dream home, friends’ homes, and more. My mother and late grandmother are/were incredible artists, and my creative instincts come from them.
