Courtney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a candidate for the Register of Deeds in Franklin County, aspiring to become the first African American in this role, it’s a significant step towards making history. My journey likely began with a deep passion for community service and a commitment to ensuring fair representation and opportunity for all. My dedication to this cause embodies a remarkable drive for positive change in my community. 

As for my journey, being a real estate agent was pivotal in shaping my understanding of the intricacies of property ownership, documentation, and the legal aspects involved. Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into the importance of accurate records and transparent processes—knowledge that contributes to my ability to assist individuals like you who are seeking to navigate and make meaningful contributions to public office. 

My aspiration to break barriers in the election of the register of deeds role aligns with my journey in learning and serving through real estate, an arena where proper documentation and representation play vital roles. Both paths, though different, converge in their pursuit of transparency, equity, and a desire to make a positive impact in the community. 

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My campaign for the register of deeds will be a journey marked by perseverance and dedication. I declared my candidacy on December 15, 2023. While the path has just started, I know facing challenges is a natural part of such a significant endeavor. 

Throughout 2024, I will work to assemble the necessary components for a successful campaign leading up to Election Day on November 5, 2024. Likely, some of the hurdles along the way will include fundraising efforts, building a strong team, establishing a robust platform, and connecting with the community. 

Each challenge met will be a step towards strengthening my campaign, solidifying support, and spreading awareness about my vision for the role of register of deeds. As I progress toward the election, my steady efforts lay the groundwork for a campaign that embodies resilience and determination.

I am a candidate for the Register of Deeds in Franklin County, North Carolina, and a licensed real estate agent. I’m proud of my dedication to transparency in real estate and my commitment to equitable representation as a candidate for register of deeds. What sets me apart is my drive to bridge gaps, champion inclusivity, and ensure fair access to resources for everyone in our community.

Despite my professional demeanor and focus, I find navigating the spotlight challenging.
