Daily Inspiration: Meet D’Kiah King

Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Kiah King.

Hi D’Kiah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started after a prom look gone wrong. My junior year in high school was when I decided that I could do my own makeup the way that I wanted for my senior prom.

So I watched YouTube videos for a long time getting all the products they recommended then my senior prom came and I fell in love with how good I actually did my makeup. Ever since then my passion for makeup and skincare grew.

In college, I would only do family and friends in my apartment bedroom. Then I decided to create a brand for myself which at the time was Divine Kreativity.

I moved out of my first apartment and into my second and used what was supposed to be my dining room as my makeup vanity area to take on different clientele. I began to crave more I wanted to be official so I decided to go to Millennium Trade Academy to get my license in esthetics where my love for skincare grew.

Once I graduated, I was on the search for more again I no longer wanted to work out of my home every day I wanted a suite so I found Sow Salon Studios and fell in love. I then rebranded into Aesthetically Pleasing Esthetics and Makeup Artistry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth.

It’s been pretty difficult but I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned about business along the way. I think the biggest struggle for me was I wanted to be there with my kids 24/7 but I also have a dream of opening up my own salon. The thought of having to put either of those on the back burner is what haunted me.

Now, I still spend time with my kids before I go to work, and right after my hours allow me to still have that time to build a business along with building a family.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a MUA/Esthetician. I specialize in makeup artistry. I’m known for my cut creases. I am a cut crease girl to the fullest.

I am most proud of my growth and that I’ve allowed myself to actually do the bold looks and cut creases that I enjoy doing. I think what sets me apart is the boldness of my work. I like a clean natural but I love a bold colorful look.

What do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is the look on my client’s face after I’m finished.

The shock and excitement are what I live for regardless if it’s a facial or makeup service. I love to see people smiling and happy and enjoying the service I have provided them.
