Daily Inspiration: Meet Eastside Razor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eastside Razor.

Hi Eastside, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I got this love for music from my father who was a DJ in Queens, NY. He would DJ block parties and host basement parties. My sisters were dancers, so I would always be around music. My family moved to Raleigh when I was eight years old, I can remember this is when I turned into a big fan of rap music! MC Lyte and special Ed were my favorites until I heard Kris Kross they blew my mind.

Seeing kids do it motivated me to try as well. By the time I got to middle school, I was the kid who would come up with catchy sayings and jingles mostly to make people laugh. That quickly turned into a habit and that habit turned into my 2nd passion. I was an athlete 1st. However, I grew up with people who are now NBA, NFL, players, and coaches. Safe to say 3rd place was good but not for me. By high school, I was recording myself with two radios to make freestyle tapes. I showed a lot of people the way to do it.

Quickly started making a name for myself. By senior year, I met with a Black Jeruz (g unit) producer and he taught me more than he knows. Still a 4th string rapper, I met DJ Skills, DJ Flash, DJ MC and would be featured on their tapes alongside carrying crates to all the HBCU college parties. I was still finding myself as an artist. I met a guy named Lou (actor now) and formed a group called MAJOR THREAT and we would open up for artists when they came to do homecomings. Even went on the def jam vendetta tour. When Lou moved back to NY, I had a hard time finding original beats.

That’s when I downloaded fruity loops… I fell in love with producing instantly. Years later, I sharpened my skill enough to link with other local producers Lava Izzle and we formed the Carolina Kingz beat team and would throw beat battles for the city. That opened the door for me. Helped build relationships that were necessary to help me find my sound.

Throw in a few life situations, money problems, bad decisions mixed with a will to win and a humble spirit and here I am today! With an album SINK OR SWIM and a business Frankies Power Washing & Restoration that is opening doors, I couldn’t imagine!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in my life has been smooth thankfully. My divorce set me back emotionally, I’m a 3x felon which set me back financially. Even battled with drug and alcohol abuse. Coming up on the Eastside, I was placed in situations that gave me anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

The crazy part is I have NO regrets.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist and producer. I specialize in both. I’m known for my longevity, very witty, but mostly my production! They seem to love my beats. I’d like to believe I stand out because I pretty much do everything myself and still have time to help others fill in the blanks for their work. They label me an OG.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In 5 to 10 years, I see a lot more millionaires in my industry. Record labels are going to be minute. These kids today have the internet in the palm of their hands. I have a feeling concerts etc will be performed in the metaverse as opposed to physically.

With NFT’S and all these apps, there is no telling where the game will be.
