Daily Inspiration: Meet FBE Big John

Today we’d like to introduce you to FBE Big John.

Hi FBE Big John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been DJing for almost 4 years now across North Carolina and around the country, I have worked with over 650 different artists in that time. I am the official DJ for InThaFest. I released my debut album last year “THE FAMILY ROAD TRIP” that featured 50 artists from North Carolina. So far this year I hosted two tapes for Banhoes a local Greensboro artist, I am currently working on hosting multiple tapes that will come out this year. Before I met Noah who created InThaFest I was just a club DJ in Greenville NC. I had created a collective called FBE (Family Before Everything) with Cole Sipe, Konsume Us & AK! Niran. But after being invited to DJ at the 1st Summer In Tha Carolinas I have been going crazy and working with so many artists and traveling around the country DJing for my friends.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I mean as an artist we all have our ups and downs. It took 3 years to drop my debut project. The only thing that has slowed me down was my health this year after having major back surgery this month but I have already bounced back and I’m back on stage already. This music and this community keeps me going. It’s my own personal healing process. Im a people person so being on stage at shows recharges my battery.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A lot of people don’t know but I’m a Juvenile Correctional Officer in Rocky Mount. I have been doing that for almost two years now. But I can work with the youth and be a role model and inspire a lot of kids that have gone down the wrong path. I tell my guys they need to figure out what they are passionate about so that can consume their time instead of being in the streets.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Staying positive. Being genuine. Let your passion lead you and let your personality speak for itself.
