Daily Inspiration: Meet Gary Newberry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Newberry.

Hi Gary, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started producing at an early age and joined my first band when I was 12. my musical journey has taken me through several different genres, bands, and production teams.

As my music life progressed, I noticed the need for more inclusion in the scenes. This inspired me to start Bass Camp. The main goal of Bass Camp is to give smaller and upcoming artists a chance to feel the stage lights. Music is such a universal force that I think everyone needs to experience it in one form or another. Music has helped me so much, it’s only right that I use it to help others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My musical journey has had its ups and downs. The biggest obstacle was the genre changeover. When I switched from performing metal to electronic music, I feel like people didn’t know what to think. Some old supporters fell off, but the new community I met along the way really kept me going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I made the transition from metal to electronic music, I knew I wanted to carry over some stage antics that I acquired in my metal life. This being live instruments, vocals, and a rock stage presence. Bringing back the old rock star stage mentality allows a frontman or a DJ to really connect with the audience on a whole other level. One thing that I feel that differentiates me from others is my ability to put myself on the same plane as the audience.

If the crowd feels like they are jamming with a good friend, some special connection was made there, and they will remember that. But I hope the good I do in this world and in the music scene is what people take away more than anything. Because that’s what its about, the community.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can freely message me on social media platforms for bookings and collabs. Most people that randomly hit me up, I book. I believe in giving the underdog a chance. Any monetary support given to Bass Camp goes right back into making Bass Camp better for everyone.
